Meretz chief to Minister Regev: Abort participation of Honduran president in torch lighting ceremony
Meretz Chairperson Tamar Zandberg contacted Culture Minister Miri Regev and asked that she canceled the participation of Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández in the 70th Independence Day's traditional torch lighting ceremony.
"This was a scandalous decision," Zandberg claimed, "which legitimizes a president only just recently 'elected' in elections suspected of being tampered with, and who's responsible for gross human rights violations in his country."
