I do criticise the Arabs and the first to be criticised are their leaders. However most of them are supported by Israel and the US like King Abdullah of Jordan or Mubarak of Egypt, true repressors of their own people

First of all the Palestinians are not my "friends" and defending the human rights violations committed against them does not mean that they are my "friends". As a Jew I have much more affinity for Israelis but I cannot tolerate violations of human rights (by Israel, the Russians, the Chinese, the Sudanese). I do not have to apologize by the Qassams since I am not Palestinian but I wish they would stop. However the destructive power of israel vs the Qassams is quite different: 450 Pals killed since June, including 83 in the first week of November as opposed to 6 people killed by Qassams in the last 6 years !!! That's a difference !!! If the IDF does not target civilians they must be stupid then. When 90 per cent of the 1200 killed in Lebanon are civilians either targeting civilians is common or even it has become policy or the IDF are completely stupid then given the number of mistakes. By the way how do you explain the 1 milion (or is it 3 milion) cluster bombs dropped in Lebanon in the last 3 days of the war ??? And you're telling me the IDF does not target civilians ??? The cluster bombs must have been a Christmas present then. At least this is criminal negligence knowing that kids are dying every day from these bombs. And I have seen a pic of a kid destroyed by a cluster bomb while playing soccer in Sep that made me almost vomit for its crudeness...I wish I could post it here.

Lina ,   NJ, USA   (11.20.06)
Stop trying to talk to your "nemesis" John. it's disheartening to watch how you try to talk some sense of reality into him, while it only feeds the fire of his belligerent lunacy. This is a person who thinks that the worse enemies of their own people are Mobarak and King Abdul, not Haniya and Nasrallah. Besides, a person that doesn't get sarcasm cannot be smart, even if he is well-read. Leave him alone, he doesn't her you anyway, you only give him excuse to mumble under his nose. To John - go check www.whatreallyhappened.com and other similar websites, you'll find there your ideological brethren who blame Jews for EVERYTHING that goes wrong in the world. You'll find plenty of love among those haters, whether you claim to be a jew or not.

You act as though the Arabs in Hebron are completely innocent and the Jews are all to blame if there's violence between them . What about the violence the Arabs commit? And I am not speaking about the shootings and bombings where the "crazy settlers" have died. I am speaking of the almost daily occurences where Arabs throw stones and firebombs at Israeli cars and buses in the West Bank. These are no little minor incidents. These firebombs and stones have killed and severly injured people over the years. I don't want to get into a prolonged argument with you. It's pointless because in all likelyhood your not going to change my mind and I am not going to change yours. But from reading your posts,I do think you sound very left wing and that you do have a pro Arab bias, which may just cause you to not see things as objectively as you think you do. You say the Jews in Hebron are crazy and not reasonable do you think these sound like reasonable people? http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/967682/posts These were the people the Arabs in the above article felt no "sympathy" for http://www.israelnewsagency.com/terrorismwesternwall.html Do you think it would be fair if I judged the whole Arab community in Hebron based on the hateful remarks of the people in the first article I posted? I have seen similiar articles like that about the Arab people in Hebron. To sum up,I will just say this the settlers seem to be everyone's favorite whipping boy right now. I do not take this lightly because in the past when Jews were demonized like this they were either driven out or masscared by the communities in which they were the minority like the Jewish community of Hebron was in 1929. I am sorry about the Swedish lady volunteer that got hurt there's no excuse for violence, but there's no excuse for violent acts of Arabs towards Jewish people living in Hebron or elsewhere in the West Bank and some of those acts of violence have been horrific, kidnapping beating and torturing to death two little boys playing in a cave, shooting an infant girl on a playground in front of her parents and other children, shooting a couple at home eating Sabbath dinner in front of their children and friends. Shooting and killing a 5 year old girl cowering under her bed. I never hear "human rights" workers like the Swedish vounteer condemn these acts of violence against the settlers. I am sorry but to me this makes what they have to say not very credible. There's enough antisemitism in this world as it is. Vllifying a whole community of Jewish people just adds more fuel to the antisemites arsenal. It's just ashame people who call themselves Jewish like you John can't realize this.
68. yes it is better not to talk to you, you are bigoted
john ,   brussels, belgium   (11.20.06)
You simply are a bunch of Israel apologists who only believe that you are right and those who dare to criticise Israel are wrong. I only suggest that you check the stats by Human Rights Watch, hardly an organization that can be labelled as anti-Semite when it gets most of its funding from healthy Jews. And how about Amnesty International. And how about the UN. Oh I forgot the UN is bad, or good only to apply Resolutions 1559 and 1701 but not the 69 Sec Council Resolutions condemning Israel or the 31 others vetoes by the US. As for Margaret, go to Hebron one day and you will learn a lot. As for the cluster bombs I got no response, I guess that nasrallah must have planted them only to give Israel a bad name. Admit it: Israel commits thousands of war crimes and just because they are committed by israel does not mean they are any better. The problem with people like you is that you still live in the ghetto: you live in the world of we are good and the others are bad. If you still want to live in the ghetto it is up to you, but when you leave the ghetto you will be quite astounded to be honest. I left the ghetto a long time ago.

Desmond Tutu "Yesterday's South African township dwellers can tell you about today's life in the Occupied Territories. To travel only blocks in his own homeland, a grandfather waits on the whim of a teenage soldier. More than an emergency is needed to get to a hospital; less than a crime earns a trip to jail. The lucky ones have a permit to leave their squalor to work in Israel's cities, but their luck runs out when security closes all checkpoints, paralyzing an entire people. The indignities, dependence and anger are all too familiar. Many South Africans are beginning to recognize the parallels to what we went through. Ronnie Kasrils and Max Ozinsky, two Jewish heroes of the anti-apartheid struggle, recently published a letter titled "Not in My Name." Signed by several hundred other prominent Jewish South Africans, the letter drew an explicit analogy between apartheid and current Israeli policies. Mark Mathabane and Nelson Mandela have also pointed out the relevance of the South African experience. "

11.15.2006 | AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL Public Statement AI Index: IOR 41/021/2006 (Public) News Service No: 293 The international community, through the UN and its mechanisms and other fora, has repeatedly expressed concern in recent years about the deterioration in the human rights situation in the Occupied Territories and in particular, in recent months, with regard to the situation in the Gaza Strip. To date, however, this has had little or no effect. As the human rights situation in the Gaza Strip has continued to worsen, the international community's expressions of concern and condemnation ring increasingly hollow. More effective action on the part of the international community is urgently needed to halt the continuing deterioration and ensure protection of the rights of the inhabitants of the Gaza Strip and the rest of the Occupied Territories. The attack by Israeli forces that killed 18 members of the Athamne family, including eight children, in the northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Hanoun on 8 November 2006 was the latest in a series of attacks which have claimed the lives of Palestinian civilians. Some 600 have been killed by Israeli forces since the beginning of 2006, with hundreds more wounded. The dead, at least half of whom were civilians not engaged in armed activities, included more than 100 children. The great majority were killed or injured in the Gaza Strip as a result of deliberate and reckless Israeli artillery shelling and air strikes into densely populated residential areas, including refugee camps. The Beit Hanoun attack was another one that could and should have been avoided. It was carried out following a six-day ground incursion by Israeli forces into Beit Hanoun that ended the previous day and that, prior to 8 November, had already resulted in the deaths of more than 50 Palestinians and injuries to some 200 others. Those killed include several children and at least 20 Palestinian residents not involved in armed confrontations. In addition, Israeli forces destroyed and damaged scores of homes, public buildings, water and electricity networks, roads and other infrastructure, vehicles, and cultivated fields which provide a crucial source of livelihood to a population already impoverished by the effects of Israeli closures and other actions and by the reduction in international aid to the Palestinian Authority. In a number of cases, residents reported having been used as so-called human shields by Israeli soldiers who took over their homes and used them as military positions from which to attack targets within the town. This endangered the residents, who were prevented from leaving or communicating with the outside world and were exposed to risk from fire by members of Palestinian armed groups fighting the Israeli soldiers. The use of "human shields" has previously been ruled unlawful by the Israeli High Court.
72. Some more AI: Paula you still want to come ???
john ,   brussels   (11.21.06)
Other incursions, combined with frequent air strikes, have been carried out by the Israeli army into towns, villages and refugee camps throughout the Gaza Strip in the past four months, with similar consequences in terms of civilian deaths and injuries. Israeli officials maintain that air strikes and artillery shelling into the Gaza Strip are aimed at stopping and deterring Palestinian armed groups from launching home-made rockets from the Gaza Strip into Israel. Such rockets mostly fall in empty areas in the south of Israel but some have harmed Israeli civilians; several were killed in such attacks in previous years and several more have been injured since the beginning of this year. While the government of Israel has an obligation to take measures to protect its population from Palestinian attacks, in doing so it must ensure that its forces act in conformity with international law, notably the provisions of international humanitarian law applicable to military occupation and the standards governing the use of lethal force in law enforcement. Amnesty International is calling on Israel to cease its deliberate and reckless attacks and to ensure that all deaths or injuries to civilians resulting from actions by Israeli forces are investigated, thoroughly and impartially, and that those responsible are held to account.
73. Paula check what the UN says if you care
john ,   brussels   (11.21.06)
Of course Israel may disregard the UN, the UN is only important when it serves Israel's purposes like Res. 1559 or 1701... Prof. John Dugard, Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, issued the following statement today: On 25 June 2006 Israel embarked on a military operation in Gaza that has resulted in over 300 deaths, including many civilians; over a thousand injuries; large-scale devastation of public facilities and private homes; the destruction of agricultural lands; the disruption of hospitals, clinics and schools; the denial of access to adequate electricity, water and food; and the occupation and imprisonment of the people of Gaza. This brutal collective punishment of a people, not a government, has passed largely unnoticed by the international community. The Quartet, comprising the United Nations, the European Union, the United States and the Russian Federation, has done little to halt Israel's attacks. Worse still, the Security Council has failed to adopt any resolution on the subject or attempt to restore peace to the region. The time has come for urgent action on the part of the Security Council. Failure to act at this time will seriously damage the reputation of the Security Council. Red Cross: IDF hit clearly marked ambulance workers Last update - 07:59 06/11/2006 | Haaretz By The Associated Press The international Red Cross on Sunday deplored the killing by the Israel Defense Forces of two "clearly marked" ambulance workers removing a Palestinian body from an earlier Israeli attack in the Gaza Strip. The paramedics of the Palestine Red Crescent Society were wearing clearly marked fluorescent jackets and the flashing lights of their ambulance were visible from a great distance when they were hit by Israeli fire after dark on Friday evening, said the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). "The International Committee of the Red Cross is appalled by this failure to protect personnel engaged in emergency medical duties," a statement said. "The individuals concerned and their means of transport were clearly marked with a distinctive emblem conferring the protection of the Geneva Conventions [on the conduct of warfare]," continued the same statement. 'Deeply shocked' One of the paramedics was killed on the spot when Israeli Defense Force munitions suddenly hit the area, it said. The other died of his injuries a few hours later. The ICRC "deplores" the deaths and "is deeply shocked and saddened by this event," the statement said. It noted that the Palestinian Red Crescent is a member of the international Red Cross movement. "Under international humanitarian law, its medical personnel and means of transport must be protected and respected in all circumstances," the ICRC said. The incident occurred during an Israeli offensive against Palestinian rocket squads.

Last update - 18:19 03/11/2006 | Haaretz By Itim Anti-fence activists on Friday claimed security forces fired live ammunition at them during a protest near the West Bank town of Bil'in, moderately wounding a French activist. Doctors at a Ramallah hospital who treated the man said his wounds were caused by a live bullet. An IDF spokesperson, however, denied the allegations, claiming security forces at the demonstration made use only of tear gas and rubber-coated bullets. Activists at the demonstration claim they have video footage of security forces shooting live ammunition. Two Palestinian youths at the demonstration sustained light wounds from rubber-coated bullets fired by security forces. Some 100 protesters took part in the weekly rally which has become the focus point in anti-fence groups' efforts to stop the erection of the barrier which they say infringes on the rights of Palestinians. MK Dov Hanin (Hadash) called on Defense Minister Amir Peretz, to investigate the army's crowd dispersal techniques and added that "it's important to act now before a lethal tragedy occurs to the citizens of Bil'in
76. Do you need more ?? Wake up !!!
john ,   brussels   (11.21.06)
Do you need more ?? Instead of apologizing for each and every one of Israel's war crimes, in an act that can only be qualified as primitive tribalism, it is time to WAKE UP !!! And to make a choice: denounce them or become complicit in them. The US drug company that provides cancer medicines to Palestinians stopped selling cancer medication to Palestinians as part of the US-led blockade against the Hamas government. The Consulate spokesperson said that no US-linked cancer treatments will reach Palestinians until the blockade is lifted. At the beginning of October the Tel Aviv based US company alleged that it could not supply medicine to the West Bank or Gaza Strip as it presents a risk to its employees. The Palestinian company that imports the medication from the American company said that the end of cancer treatment drugs for Palestinians is due to the blockade against the Hamas government. The director of the Jerusalem-based company expressed fears on Thursday that thousands of people will die as a result of the continuing lack of medication. He said that a press conference is forthcoming to bring the world's attention to the issue.

78. another big anti-semite !!!
john ,   brussels   (11.21.06)
The UN high commissioner for human rights has criticised rights violations in the Palestinian territories as she visited the site of a deadly botched Israeli shelling in the Gaza Strip. Louise Arbour said during her brief visit to Gaza on Monday: "The violations of human rights in the Palestinian territories are intolerable. "I think it's clear that civilians are tremendously exposed." Arbour said that her visit was to express UN condolences and show concern for civilians in Beit Hanoun where some 80 people were killed in this month's Israeli offensive. Arbour was speaking not far from the Nasser mosque, one of the oldest mosques in Gaza whose lone minaret is all that remains after the offensive, before heading into talks with Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president, at his Gaza City seafront office. She emphasised that she would stress to both Israeli and Palestinian authorities the need to protect civilians. More than 60 Palestinians were killed during a six-day Israeli operation in Beit Hanoun. Nineteen others, mostly women and children, died in an Israeli shelling on November 8. Arbour's visit comes less than a week after the UN Human Rights Council voted last Wednesday to send an urgent fact-finding mission to Beit Hanoun to examine the impact of Israel's attack on the Palestinian homes. Thirty-two countries, mainly from Asia, Africa and the Middle East, voted for the resolution introduced by Arab and Islamic nations at the 47-member Council, which was subsequently denounced by Washington as "imbalanced".

Margret   (11.21.06)
You got all emotional in both of your last posts, but the fact is you did not really refute one single thing I said. You just repeated the same old line people on the extreme left do all the time to villify Israel. Israel is an apartheid state. The settlers are evil. Let me just ask you one question, how can it be possible the violence in the West Bank, for instance, is totally onesided and the Jews are doing all the attacking when almost everytime I read an Israeli newspaper there is a report about how an Israeli settler's car is attacked by rocks or firebombs? I condemn violence by all sides including the Jewish violence. That's the difference between me and you. You focused completely on the violent acts of Jews in Hebron, but I do not recall you condemn the acts of violence against the Jewish settlers. Why is that? Do you think they got what they deserved? Do you think the two little kids hiding in the cave deserved to be so badly beaten and tortured that their remains were only identified by their DNA? Do you agree with the sentiments of the nice Arabs from Hebron in that article that all the people, women and children included, who got blown up on the bus deserved it because they were Jews,or as the nice cousin of the bomber said "everyone in Israel is a soldier from 1 to 100". Remember the Jews killed in that attack don't even recognize Israel themselves for goodness sake! Of course,I am sure you will come up with an excuse for them too. I am sure those masked heavily armed poor little fellows were just reacting to being attacked and mauled by the vicious little Jewish girls in Hebron? Right John? I guess it follows that's why one of them shot the 10 month old in her carriage on the playground? Or why they shot the 5 year old cowering under her bed? There's always a reason always as excuse or a root cause from caring peace activists like you when people are killed or violated as long as their Jews and especially the mean old "settler" type. As for Desmond Tutu, don't even get me started on that man. I used to admire him and look up to him for speaking out against white racists in South Africa and standing up for human rights of his people, but I was shocked when I read some of the things he said about Israel. I personally think he's very prejudiced and biased. And I lost all respect and admiration I ever had for him.

81. To John
Margaret   (11.21.06)
Most of nations in the world at one time or another have commited war crimes against enemy civiians . I am sure Israel is probably one of them as well. This is unfortunate and regrettable. However,I am still more sympathetic to Israelis overall mainly because they are surrounded by over 500 million people the majority of whom hate their country and would love to see them dead. Still that doesn't mean I agree with everything Israeli does just today I read the IDF admitted they used cluster bombs in the Lebanese war. I think that was very unethical and sad . I condemn it too. But I also read the other day America so far has killed over 100,000 Iraqis in just the last 3 years. Today another 100 people died in Iraq in bombings and shootings? Doesn't this outrage you as well? Why do you seem to take out all your anger and resentment on the one Jewish nation in the world? Is it maybe because you think the worst of the Jews ? I can assure you your not alone, for centuries, the Jewish people have endured accusations of the most sinister, conspitatorial plots against humanity some of these defamotory accusations include Jewish control over the world banking systems. Jewish religious practices which involve child sacrifice, Jewish dishonesty in business and commerce, Jewish plots to control the world. Today, some of the religious leaders of the Palestinians have said basically the same things about the Jews. As well as the President of Iran. These are not just harmless ideals and words. Ultimately those kind of ideals led to the Holocaust. I agree it's very sad that so many Arabs have died in the last war,but I still find it hard to believe Israelis deliberately target civilians. If they did why don't they just openly admit to it and take credit when they kill innocents like the Arab terrorists do? Why didn't they just bomb that house in Gaza the other day when Arab civilians surrounded it to stop the Israelis from destroying it? With all the firepower they have they could easily destroyed Gaza but they don't why? One last thing, I know you think the link I posted about the Arabs in Hebron celebrating the suicide bombing of that bus was not reputable but the original article came from the Jerusalem Post the most read newspaper in Israel. In other articles I have read most of the Arabs in Gaza or the West Bank support the suicide bombings and most of them sadly speak of how they hate the Jews and want to kill them. Also, I am very skeptical about the link you posted about the Lebanese ambulance which was supposedly hit by an Israeli missle. A friend of mine sent me a link about incident http://www.zombietime.com/fraud/ambulance The whole thing was proven to be a fraud.

83. to margaret: check UN resolutions as simple as that
john ,   brussels   (11.21.06)
I am not of the extreme left or the extreme right. How come now it turns out that the poor settlers are the victims now ??? Have you read Resolutions 242 and 338 stating that the Palestinian territories are occupied ??? How would you feel if the Palestinians were occupying parts of Israel and building Palestinian only settlements or Palestinian only roads ??? Would you like that ??? I mean I do not expect you to be an expert on international law, but at least I expect you to have some common sense !!!
84. BTW Margaret how about the cluster bombs ??
john ,   brussels   (11.21.06)
Can you respond to that other than it was a HORRIBLE WAR CRIME THAT IS KILLING CHILDREN IN LEBANON AS WE SPEAK ???? WAS IT MAYBE NASRALLAH WHO PLANTED THEM IN ORDER TO BLAME ISRAEL ??? OR WAS IT SIMPLY A WAR CRIME, ONE MORE OF THESE UGLY WAR CRIMES COMMITTED BY ISRAEL SINCE JUNE, THOSE WAR CRIMES THAT ISRAEL AND ISRAELI APOLOGISTS WANT TO KNOW NOTHING ABOUT ??? CAN YOU RESPOND TO THAT ???
85. yes Margaret the Red Cross is a fraud, as AI
john ,   brussels   (11.21.06)
Yes Margaret the Red Cross is a fraud, as Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch or others right ?? Yes of course I seem to know the explanation: when Israel commits a war crime, it is either a) it is an accident - too many accidents lately or b) Israel did not mean it - (how can you explain the 3 milion cluster bombs) or c) it is a fraud (regardless of whether it is the Human Rights Commissioner, or Human rights Watch, the Red Cross or whoever) Simple answers: If they did why don't they just openly admit to it and take credit when they kill innocents like the Arab terrorists do? Do you want me to repeat the statements of Israeli leaders during the Lebanon war ??? "Every one in South Lebanon is a terrorist" "We need to turn the population against Hezbollah" (how ?? by killing as many of them as possible) Do you need more ?? Why didn't they just bomb that house in Gaza the other day when Arab civilians surrounded it to stop the Israelis from destroying it? With all the firepower they have they could easily destroyed Gaza but they don't why? Because after killing 83 people more than half of them civilians including a family of 21 destroyed by a shell that brought unanimous international condemnation (except from the US veto of course) Israel cannot afford it as its image especially after this summer's Lebanon war has never been so low. So it was not done not out of humanitarian concern but out of what the others will think. In other words PR. What you and other apologists do not seem to understand is that israel will not be more liked because it commits more war crimes, or because it drops more missiles or because it kills more civilians, on the contrary doing this and committing war crimes Israel will only gain more and more emmity from its neighbors and to be honest if I was Israeli I would be worried because after these horrible war crimes committed by israel including the daily destructions of families in Lebanon, in the West Bank and in gaza, since June, hatred against Israel is an all-time high. By the way since you talk about the Pals public opinion which as far as I know is not correct because most are against violence, 61% against the Qassams, how do you explain the multiple and repeated messages in this same online paper praising Liebermann who would like to see Arabs annihilated ???

Study: 40 percent of settlements were built on Palestinian land By Yair Sheleg, Haaretz Correspondent and Haaretz Service A new study has found that approximately 40 percent of settlements, including long-standing communities, are built on private Palestinian land and not on state-owned land. Out of a total area of 157,000 dunams used by West Bank settlements and industrial zones, 61,000 dunams (approximately 38 percent) are privately owned by Palestinians. The report singles out the two largest settlements, both of which have city status. It says that 86.4 percent of Ma'ale Adumim is built on Palestinian land, and 35.1 percent of Ariel. The report "demonstrates that the property rights of many Palestinians have been systematically violated in the course of settlement building." State-owned lands amount to 87,000 dunams (including 2,000 dunams soon to be declared as owned by the state) and just 2,000 dunams are Jewish-owned. "Israel has violated even its own norms and laws in the West Bank, through the confiscation of private Palestinian property and the building of settlements upon them," the report says. Do you understand why the Palestinians do not like the settlers now ??? Or if you find this OK, why don't the Palestinians do the same with Israeli land ?? Confiscating it and taking it away so that they can build settler only properties for Palestinians deep inside Israeli territory with Palestinian-only roads and anyone coming closer will be shot ??? Why don't you start by giving your land and house if you find the settlers behaviour so correct ???

Thank you for reminiding me of the obvious. I don't know why I always seem to think I can rationalize with irrational people like this John fellow. I guess I always tend to think the best of people, and if you tell people the truth long enough they will realize it as well. Unfortunately, people like John always bring me back to reality harsh as it is. It is really scary to think someone filled with so much hate and prejudice can hide behind a facade of being neutral and peaceful and what is just as bad is that much of the world actually believes him.
