First of all the Palestinians are not my "friends" and defending the human rights violations committed against them does not mean that they are my "friends". As a Jew I have much more affinity for Israelis but I cannot tolerate violations of human rights (by Israel, the Russians, the Chinese, the Sudanese). However the destructive power of israel vs the Qassams is quite different: 450 Pals killed since June, including 83 in the first week of November as opposed to 6 people killed by Qassams in the last 6 years !!! That's a difference !!! If the IDF does not target civilians they must be stupid then. When 90 per cent of the 1200 killed in Lebanon are civilians either targeting civilians is common or even it has become policy or the IDF are completely stupid then given the number of mistakes. By the way how do you explain the 1 milion (or is it 3 milion) cluster bombs dropped in Lebanon in the last 3 days of the war ??? And you're telling me the IDF does not target civilians ??? The cluster bombs must have been a Christmas present then. At least this is criminal negligence knowing that kids are dying every day from these bombs. To date, however, this has had little or no effect. As the human rights situation in the Gaza Strip has continued to worsen, the international community's expressions of concern and condemnation ring increasingly hollow. More effective action on the part of the international community is urgently needed to halt the continuing deterioration and ensure protection of the rights of the inhabitants of the Gaza Strip and the rest of the Occupied Territories. The attack by Israeli forces that killed 18 members of the Athamne family, including eight children, in the northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Hanoun on 8 November 2006 was the latest in a series of attacks which have claimed the lives of Palestinian civilians. Some 600 have been killed by Israeli forces since the beginning of 2006, with hundreds more wounded. The dead, at least half of whom were civilians not engaged in armed activities, included more than 100 children. The Beit Hanoun attack was another one that could and should have been avoided. The UN high commissioner for human rights has criticised rights violations in the Palestinian territories as she visited the site of a deadly botched Israeli shelling in the Gaza Strip. Louise Arbour said during her brief visit to Gaza on Monday: "The violations of human rights in the Palestinian territories are intolerable. "I think it's clear that civilians are tremendously exposed." Arbour said that her visit was to express UN condolences and show concern for civilians in Beit Hanoun where some 80 people were killed in this month's Israeli offensive. State-owned lands amount to 87,000 dunams (including 2,000 dunams soon to be declared as owned by the state) and just 2,000 dunams are Jewish-owned. "Israel has violated even its own norms and laws in the West Bank, through the confiscation of private Palestinian property and the building of settlements upon them," the report says.
