Palin is against gay marriage but as Governor of Alaska, she has done nothing to limit the rights of homosexuals to have civil unions and benefits. I live in California with two large gay communities - San Francisco and West Hollywood. Californians approved a ban on gay marriage that was recently overturned by a liberal court. We will be voting on it again in November. Palin's views on gays are no different than many of us here in gay-friendly California. Our own Governor, Arnold Schwartzenegger was against gay marriage but has now flip-flopped and said he will not support a ban.

I've been trying to understand why people would want a VP that has legal problems, who does not know what a VP does, who has no foreign policy experience, who seemingly talks about war, guns, and oil a whole lot (even when speaking in a church) and has unconventional beliefs. Then I realize that people are not gluttons for self punishment, it may be that the whole election is kind of really about abortion in many people's minds. Good hearted people are simply voting against abortion. We may need to have a way of taking the abortion issue out of governments hands and into the people's. Then we can deal with other issues when we are electing a president/vice president.
