This war may have achieved everything you could have reasonably set out to do. The 2006 war was not necessarily a failure - you haven't had a serious rocket problem from Lebanon since; not even during this war. But many Palestinians want prisoners released and the occupation of the West Bank to end. If you look for "total victory" (i.e. we get everything and we give nothing in return) then you will only be able to achieve at the expense of more lives (Israeli and Palestinian), at an immense cost to Israel's global reputation and with the result that the two-state solution will be dead. And in the long run the absence of such a solution threatens Israel as much, if not more, than it threatens the Arab world. You've won. Hamas have shown themselves to be not only murderous but also impotent. Now is the time for magnanimity. Open the crossings. Try and restore some normality to the lives of the ordinary people of Gaza. It is not in your interests to create a failed state on your border or to give the Gazan people a reason to hate Israel as much as they have a genuine reason to hate Hamas.

If our politicians operated as well as our soilders then Hamas would have been smashed and then any unilateral ceasefire would be based on Israels terms. The palestinians have been seeking peace for 60 years now thats a good joke. Since the creation of the PLO when a group of arabs identified themselves as palestinians its goal was the destruction of Israel and its replacement with an arab state. In 1993 Arafat signed oslo which he personly described as a trojan horse and how 2 states was stage 1 in the liberation of all Palestine and he would never give up even 1 inch of it. We got nothing but terror even after the signing of oslo and the PLO never changed their charter like oslo demanded so even today legaly the PLO doesnt recognise Israels right to exist full stop. There is a palestinian state in existence they call it Jordan so your right the 1 state solution is the best one .. Jordan will be the palestinian state Israel will anex Judea & Samaria and the refugee return fantasy will never be anything but a fantasy with no legal binding under international law. Another palestinian state in Judea & Samaria is not physicly viable. Water supply ( some aquifers will be shard to Israel, Israel will get full soverignty of some palestiinians of others but generaly there isnt enough water to go around. Israel at least has the Kineret. As a lack of agricultural land the majority of your food will be imports. You have a small qualntity of natural gas off the Gaza coast but nothing special $1-$2 billion worth at best and its going to take more than that to rebuild Gaza. Some fishing rights but again this is not enough to sustain the country. Its going to be divided into 2 parts and Israel will have soverignty over the crossings. You wont be allowed a military to defend yourself so what happens if you are invaded in future by Israel or any other country? Your education system doesn't come close to Israel. You dont have the allies. Not as much as during the cold war but Israel can still offer countries like the US more than palestinian state could. Israel was also built on western culture any palestinian state will be based on arab culture and the west prefer their own... the love for the lost cause will die out around most the world if a palestinian state came into being all the supporters you see now its a tempory measure. A second palestinian state just isn't viable and the jews will never accept the arab idea of Israel becoming the next arab majority state rather than a jewish one. You should also get your facts straight .. jewish living in Sderot, Ashkelon, Ashdod and Beerhsheva are not settlers they are civilians. So both soilders and civilians have been murdered by Hamas whose terror led to this war.
