61. As an Israeli-American I support these ads
Besalel ,   Great Neck, NY   (12.02.11)
There is nothing offensive about these ads. It is the truth and Americans should open their eyes and take a good look around them. In a perfect world, we belong in Israel.
62. ,...
split ,   US   (12.02.11)
Someone once told me that if they're not ortho they would have to work in Israel ,...
63. These ads won't reach Israeli's in the US
Noa ,   Israel and US   (12.02.11)
I have lived both places and hold duel citizenship. Israelis I know in the US raise their kids to love Israel. They don't celebrate Christmas and they and their US spouses (if they haven't married other Israelis) honor all the Israeli holidays. So these ads spark an emotional reaction to Israelis in Israel, but they don't reflect reality to most Israelis living in the U.S. Furthermore, their US spouses, who have come to understand and honor (and sometimes love) Israel, and are raising their kids as such will possibly resent these ads. In my opinion, they will have a negative impact.
64. But ads to boycott Israel is ok?
Robert ,   NY USA   (12.02.11)
And Jeffery Goldberg is an idiot. How about all the aid to Arab and Muslim countries who burn American flags? Everyone gets away with anything, while Jews have to watch if we breath the right way for the west.
65. To #46...
k. ,   Israel   (12.02.11)
It's time for expats, and any individual, to decide what's right for themselves. If they care about assimilating, there are things they can do about it (which don't involve Israel, btw). And if they don't, that's fine too. The bottom line is that it is their choice and it is up to them as individuals to decide what they want. It's not time for anybody to return, it's time for the government to make Israel a place where people don't suffer.
66. I understand both sides
Matthew Lusia ,   Hod HaSharon, Israel   (12.02.11)
I understand the message that the creators of these commercials, tried to aim at. I also understand why the US Jews didn't really like it. First of all a large part of the Jewish people lived in the diaspora for 2,000 years, it's true some of them didn't remain Jewish but a large part did. How else can you explain the survival of the Jewish diaspora, against all odds. Second I immigrated to Israel from Europe and believe me most Jews in Europe are very much connected to their Jewish identy and roots. I can't speak for the American Jews, but I don't think it's that much different. How else can you explain that US presidents that want support from US Jews have to show support to Israel first.
67. It works both ways.
solomon ,   bklyn   (12.02.11)
Israelis complain that people living outside Israel have no idea what it is to live in Israel, what goes on in Israel, how things really are in Israel, etc, and not to believe everything you read. And they say so with good reason; they are right. Interesting that now the shoe is on the other foot; all the posts show that Israelis "know" "exactly" what goes in the US and how to 'fix' it. Interesting.
68. I am an American Jew and
Anne ,   San Francisco, Calif   (12.02.11)
the ads don't bother me one bit. I think they are spot on. I think they are great and necessary and sadly their content is so very true.
69. Klita ads
Dennis Greenstein ,   NJ USA   (12.02.11)
as an American Jew and an Israeli, married to an Israeli, living here in the US, I see nothing wrong with these ads. Yes... they make me think, esp about my single son, and his choices. Yes, the issues they raise are not all pleasant. But they make us think, and are done in good taste. I doubt that they are useful in bringing home Israelis, but the questions plant seeds, and...maybe..
70. Your article
Nancy ,   Des Plaines USA   (12.02.11)
I totally agree with Israel on this ad. My husband and I visited Tel Aviv last week and would love to live there. A true Jew belongs in Israel not in the United States with it emphasis on everything Christian.
71. A truth that hurts
Flavio ,   Sao Paulo, Brazil   (12.02.11)
This Israeli campaign is merely highlighting a very well known truth. I understand the need of Jewish american organizations to appease sensitivities, especially nowadays, with more than half of American Jews living in mixed marriages; on the other hand, it cannot be denied tha USA is where assimilation is the fastest in the Diaspora. A community where celebrating Christmas is steadily being accepted as something normal, not to mention the other issues dealt in the PR campaig, really should be more concerned with its own members than with any advertising campaign!
72. advertisements are 100% correct
david ,   new york   (12.02.11)
an israeli will always think something is missing in america.
73. I am an American Jew
Ziva ,   Los Angeles, USA   (12.02.11)
When I saw this ad on the Israeli Network, all I could think is that's exactly what happened to my children.
74. PR
Norm ,   Minneapolis, MN   (12.02.11)
The current administration of Israel might be referred to as the "Great Alienators" The negative response among your greatest supporters, the Jews of the USA could have been predicted by anyone not blinded by their own arrogance. PR is a great idea. Israel should use more of it, especially on their enemies. But whoever thought of this recent campaign in America should be disqualified.
75. Respect
Ted ,   Boston, USA   (12.02.11)
Dear Israel, What we would like from you, in return for our emotional, political, and economic support, even when we don't agree with your government's positions, is respect for the 40% of world Jewry that lives in the US. Really, is that too much to ask? Sincerely, American Jews
76. thousands of years in the diaspora
sarah ,   phila usa   (12.02.11)
and we survived and thrived....as religious jews. Fix the problems in Israel and maybe more would feel safe living there. Whats offensive about the rememberence day video is the "american" boyfriend. I cant see a smart, intense woman dating someone like that in the first place. Most jewish american men who give a damn about their hertitage arent as clueless as this dolt.
77. Assimilation
Bert ,   Poughkeepsie, USA   (12.02.11)
This truth will only offend leftist Jews who are already very far gone and already identify mainly as Democrats. My own Jewish community refuses to even hold a rally to support Israel. I am glad that in Israel Jews are growing in number and in Jewish commitment. In America, on average, Jews are declining in numbers and in commitment except for some minority groups such as the Orthodox and those who are strong supporters of Israel.
78. Let me come home!
David ,   America   (12.02.11)
I cannot prove my Jewishness, however, every cell in my body screams "Israel is home!" I love Israel with all my heart and the Jewish people as my dear brothers and sisters. I would love to be there. I don't understand Jews who do not want to go home. Please allow me to take the place of one of these Jews who are insulted and do not want to go home.
79. Imagaine if the Phillipines had a campaign...
Ben ,   Tel Aviv   (12.02.11)
targeted at the foreign workers that said, "Before 'Merry Christmas' becomes 'Happy Hannukah'" or if Russia had one that was "Before 'babushka' becomes 'savtah'". It's not whether one is Israeli or not, it's the implication that the "others" (including American Jews) are somehow dirty and contaminating Israeli cultural purity. Yet American money is perfectly welcome by Israelis...
80. Leshon Kodesh AND PRONOUCEABLE Yisraelit, binding Isr/galut.
Jerry ,   The Netherlands   (12.02.11)
81. Which group is more insecure: American Jews or Israelis?
Cameron ,   USA   (12.02.11)
82. #29
David ,   America   (12.02.11)
Your values define you. You are not Jewish in heart, maybe only in blood. You are afraid of a little discomfort so you turn your back on your country. I don't believe I want you in America either.
83. the truth hurts...
ej ,   tlv, israel   (12.02.11)
84. Bet the "angry U.S. Jews" are the usual liberal suspects.
Chaim ,   Israel   (12.02.11)
The article doesn't specifically note which U.S. Jews were angered by this truthful and meritorious campaign. However, I'm willing to bet they were the usual liberal suspects. Top leaders of organizations like B'nai Brith and the American Jewish Committee. Leaders who never steer Jews in the right direction and object when others do. I doubt U.S. Jews, as a whole, object to this campaign.
85. bad feeling...
Joe ,   USA/Israel   (12.02.11)
The contect is absolutely valid, the way to express it stupid. If we see an inverse video (a boy celebrating Hanuka rather than Chrismas), many people would define it as antisemitic (because it indicates that being jewish is bad), or if you have a religeous group in Israel having a video like this one, showing the grandparents how the grandson goes for bed in Pesach or eats in Kippur, it would create a massive negative response in Israel. Conclusion: valid content, negative way to express it.
86. make aliyah to Israel so you can....
US Navy Officer ,   ship at sea   (12.02.11)
...read the Hebrew ads on this very website which say: "Love Blonds? In Los Angeles they love you! Come work with our Israeli company in California!". ...and so that you can perfect your arabic-based slang words. Then the Israelis will think you're also a sabra!
87. ISRAELI JEWS OWE US JEWS NOTHING
Zimbi ,   NJUSA   (12.02.11)
FREEDOM OF SPEECH APPLIES TO THEM AS WELL IN USA
88. They are very well made, and they touch a nerve..
Scott ,   USA   (12.02.11)
Every immigrant community faces the same issues. The target of these videos are not American Jews but those who were born, raised, and educated in another country that needs them. Don't be so touchy.
89. DON"T DEPEND ON AMERICAN JEWS
Zimbi ,   NJUSa   (12.03.11)
90. Mr. Foxman, time to admit to few facts
Mark C   (12.02.11)
Mr. Foxman, is time to admit to few facts; What is the percentage of reform and conservative Jews intermarriage? What is the percentage of their offspring that consider them self as Jews, or will intermarry? How many Jews lived in the US fifty years ago, and how many today? Is the natural growth equal to the Blacks? Or growth in general? Mr. Foxman if not the Israelis and the Russian Jews the Jewish population in the US would have shrunk dramatically. Israel cares and wants to preserve the Jewish people, and care less if your constituencies are less or more. You are a good man, but your response is wrong
