62. Destroying Iran's nukes is only sane course of action.
Chaim ,   Israel   (01.28.12)
The author is absolutely correct. Destroying Iran's nukes is the only sane course of action.
63. Why Israel should strike Iran
Syd Chaden ,   Palermo Calif USA   (01.28.12)
The points in the article are well taken, except for the closing paragraph, with which I disagree. The author says that if Obama fails to act, Israel will have to. I know that he means if Obama fails to preemptively attack the Iranian nuclear capability, but that is not the real threat. The real threat is that, after the 2012 US elections, if Obama is reelected, he will no longer have the restraint of having to pander to the political contributions and votes of liberal American Jews, and there will be no US support for Israel. To the contrary, the US will prevent Israel from making any preemptive attacks. If Israel is to survive, it had better take out the Iranian nuclear capability before the 2012 US elections.

Sarah, the stupid imposter does not fool me. He cannot reach your level no matter how hard he tries. Shabbat Shalom to you & yours.
66. The game has different rules
Yael Schlichting ,   Raubling - Germany   (01.28.12)
As U.S. Joint Chief of Staff General Martin Dempsey met with IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Benny Gantz and Ehud Barak last week, they clarified how different their judgment was? Really? We must see, that striking in the current political situation is a complicated venture. Israel cannot strike without crossing Arab air space! This might still work, but Israel currently cannot cross Jordanian air space, since there is the problematic situation with the stateless Arabs. Hussein demands a price! He want's Israel to land for the stateless! He will not permit a strike unless there is something moving in his favor. If he would, he would be in deeeeep trouble at home! The Saudis also thing twice before allowing Israel to use its air space, because they have a mentionable big Shi'ite minority and are within reach of the Iranian army. Egypt at present doesn't make the thing easier, because the angry crowds on Egypt's streets will shout "We want war with Israel!" first! Yes, Egypt has a minority that can think, but we have seen, were the voters have placed this minority during the last elections. Syria and Lebanon are the worst Candidates. Instantly after striking Iran, Israel would need it's air force at home! The longer I think about it, the more I am glad, that Israel hasn't already struck against Iran. Of course, we can shout out our barroom clichés in the talkbacks but we will not nuke Iran unless there is no other option left, nor can we expect, that we get away with a conventional strike. I am wondering since months, how Israel would deal with a rain of missiles from Iran, Syria, Lebanon and Gaza. A strike against Iran would pull the trigger for this AND it would only defer the scenario of a nuclear armed Iran. On the other side, we would end up with a massive regional conflict and of course two and a half of these stateless would become martyrs. Next the Arab lobby machine in Europe would boot and they will leave no politician alone unless the European states pressure Israel to stop its strikes against its neighbors to avoid civilian casualties. ....... We know this scenario too good! Israel is not taken serious anyway, after it stopped Cast Lead, after it retrieved from south Lebanon, leaving the territory to Hezbollah and a totally incapable UNIFIL. Israel must make clear to its neighbors, that it will stop trying to be the good guy. I mean this in the worst sense of what the above sentence can be interpreted. Then and only then, the surrounding neighbors will reconsider their attitudes!
67. Madmen?
Iain ,   Newcastle Canada   (01.28.12)
Upon reading Hagai's piece, it is apparent that it takes a madman to know one. Iran hasn't attacked anyone in over 200 years and obviously has no intention now despite all the saber rattling in their direction.
68. 100 % right
(01.28.12)
69. WRONG!
PaulZion ,   Israel   (01.28.12)
Israel was NOT established to offer response to Anti-Semitic madmen, Mr Segal. Israel was established to provide a homeland for Jews TO LIVE IN. The lesson learned from the Holocaust was NOT that Israel should have a strong army - it was that if Jews had a homeland, they would no longer be the soccer ball of the world, homeless and unwanted - and they could live without fear, in a land that was their own, not at the mercy of unwilling hosts. The army exists in order to ensure the above two paragraphs, and not the other way around! YES, ( a big yes), Israel must defend itself against all those who wish to destroy it and the Jews, and please G-d, we will always know how to do that ( so far we have), but please Mr Segal, stop writing irresponsible rhetoric, calling for action which could trigger a Third World War, where my children will be called upon to serve and possibly sacrifice their lives, while even high ranking military experts say that if we bomb their nuclear facility, we will put off their progress for a year at most. Please remember at all times that the army exists in order to allow us to LIVE in peace and without fear - that is its priority, not to be the stick with which the Western World strikes Iran. Yes, our interests must come first, but we MUST try to look ahead and consider the consequences before we act, not go gung ho into battle, just to make satisfy your lust for action, even if it is not effective.
70. #12 Nour the drama queen
Cynthia ,   USA   (01.28.12)
Your family ran to the hills of Lebanon in '48. If your family was so attached to the land, they should have fought to protect the land when your Arab brothers attacked Israel. Instead, they ran away. Now you rant from Canada as one of the invented people.
71. #25 Poor Nour, out of arguments
Cynthia ,   USA   (01.28.12)
While the Palestinians march ten steps backward, Israel thrives. The people of Israel define themselves. As for the Iranian threat, Ahmadinejad and Khamenei are always ranting and frothing at the mouth over the threat Israel poses. Do you doubt them? What's amusing is how Ahmadinejad babbles about free Palestine while using the Palestinians to further Iran's cause. No foreign aid to Palestinians from Iran. They only fund their Hamas proxies. On a personal note, I've noticed how jealous you are of Sarah. I suspect you're the imposter.
72. #67 Stay informed
Cynthia ,   USA   (01.28.12)
Iran attacked Israel in 2006 and 2008 through Hamas and Hezbollah proxies. Ahmadinejad has threatened repeatedly to destroy Israel since 2005. Chants of "Death to Israel" means just that. Canada is not immune from the Iranian threat as the Iranian Regime believes they are at war with the West.

the urgency of the hour and it is doubtful they will let the opportunity slip through their fingers. After all, Israel also has elections coming up in the not too distant future.
74. To #1 some factual corrections...
RichInBoston ,   BostonUSA   (01.28.12)
Iraq had 2 reactors that were destroyed along with up to date air defense systems for that time period. They had shut them down at the time, the Israelis knew the schedule and took advantage of the lack of GCI to hit the reactors. The Israelis had no access to satelite imagery. The outgoing Carter administration prevented IL access to KH11 satelite images because Carter didnt want to support an Israeli strike. Point is, there are always advantages and limitations on such operations. Regardless of time period.

Sarah B tries to make Israelis look like bloodthirsty warmongerers who view the Palestinians the same way the Nazis did the Jews. She even uses the same terminology, calling them "vermin" and "a cancer." It has to be an act. Anyone with a half a brain knows if Israel adopted these genocidal policies it would be doomed (it would lose all support from the US and others and descend into civil war as most Israelis would not sit by while their nation did to others what was previously done to them by the Nazis.) It is, nevertheless, disturbing that more of this board's staunch Israel supporters don't point out the BS she spouts. She is no friend of Israel.

Why can't the Jews learn to love people whose only goal in life is to kill them. People who shoot rockets at them daily and slit the throats of their sleeping children and shoot at Jewish school busses. The nerve of people like Sarah and myself. What are we thinking? We need an enlightened person with half a brain to show us the way. How nice of you to volunteer Becky. How can we ever thank you for your witless wisdom?

Sarah Fighter jets are the only real option if they want to hit the target with pinpoint precision and I have explained why they are not an option for Israel. Submarine launched cruise missiles have neither the range, accuracy or powerful enough warhead. Jericho missiles have the range and alot of kick but they are designed for destroying buildings not bunker busting. The one thing Israel might try although it may well end up with America shunning Israel for a long time to come would be if Israel could start a war with the intent of America finishing it. Israel hits Iran token gesture to get Iran to retaliate and hope Iran retaliates against the US as well and if that happens Iran has declared an act of war and Obama would be justified in dropping some bombs. If Bibi was going to try something like that though he would have to think very carefully about how America will punish Israel which is will somehow,

Some people are so brave!! You are so brave!!! Threatening 5 million Jews with the might and fury of 1.5 billion Muslims that's having guts (in your opinion). Read the news, Nour, you have not won yet! So far you lost all your wars. How do you know if Jews are Semites or not? did you run a genetic analysis of your lies?

85. bombs don't kill people, people kill people
ghilmeini ,   kandahar bameerik   (01.29.12)
the recent reports that 3 Hezbollah hit squads got busted in Azerbijan, Thailand and Argentina, indicates the Iranians are trying to trigger a war while they finish the bomb. Israel should wipe out the easy target, Iran's oil fields and production facilities and hope they collapse economically and whoever comes after are more civilized. The threat is THIS regime with bombs.

Sarah B has been posting here in full support of Israel & the Jewish people for a long long time. Out of the blue you bounce into this forum spewing a dog-heap of pure rot to try to influence us regulars against her. It wont work newbie. Go play with your dollies & wash your mouth out.

By Nour's own story, she lives in Canada. Her grandparents ran away from Israel after being threatened by Syrian militias in '48. That's why her grandfather hated the Syrians. They went to Lebanon, then settled in Canada. Nour is a Christian Arab. She's never lived in Israel nor does she have any claim to Israel. Her sense of entitlement is imaginary.

Play that kind of dark game with us, and it would never be forgotten or forgiven. At the least, such a stunt would trainwreck the alliance, if not bring it to an end. No, that would put you on the very thinnest of ice with us. Don't get desperate & stupid.
