91. Moral decline? Whose morals, exactly?
john   (04.17.12)
Whose morals? Your morals? Then you clearly do not understand war and warfare, as well as the fundamentals of riot and crowd control. Sometimes, as unfortunate as it is, human beings need a knock on the head. To call it moral decline is naive. It's riot control, pure and simple. It's not pretty but it is reality
92. No matter
io   (04.17.12)
What the circumstances, such an act was depraved and shaming Israel...an officer must act with restraint and do his job as he is meant to. Brutal...
93. Syrian thugs
mike ,   Sydney/Ra'anana   (04.17.12)
would have killed all the protesters present. Your leftist analogies are destructive to Israeli society. You are an irrelevant people who are becoming the minority.
94. Its not Col. Eisner's thought
Moshe ,   Jerusalem   (04.17.12)
It’s all the governments thought, if they let these activists in then Lt.-Col. Eisner would not have needed to take the action he did. Now it’s all blown out of proportion, spread over the media and makes Israel look the bad guys. What should have happened was to let these activists in, have them sign some sort of document and escort them around Israel and see what a humane country we are compared to the inhumane Arab countries that are murdering people every day. Here expression of religious views are not restricted, Arabs pray on our streets but we cannot utter a pray on the Temple Mount a sight which is holy to the Jewish people. And tell me a country that lets “Gays” have the rights that any other person has, most Palestinian Gay Arabs try to make their way to Israel as in their lands they are treated like dirt.
95. Trial by media
Joseph ,   London UK   (04.17.12)
Of course his actions are 100% unacceptable. However, until there is an investigation we cannot jump to conclusions either way. What he did is beyond dispute, but what happened before the bit shown on the video is less clear. We don't want trial by media.
96. The only ugly face i know is mr. Peretz(former defence minis
alex   (04.17.12)
97. Check background of Danish "Activist"
BackgroundChecks ,   Jerusalem Israel   (04.17.12)
While totally unaceptable behavior on the part of the Colonel it would behove YNET to investigate the personal hisories of theis Danish "PeaceActivist" and some of the others and you might find some very revealing facts about these people and not complimentary ones either but Ynet and the rest of the media never do these personal background checks on these people why ? We ask of our military to do the almost impossible and when the pressure is too much we add to their distress unmercifully in the media. Sometimes the people get the feeling it is really the leftist media that is more concerned than the nation because of their "image" with the left media of Europe and elsewhere. .
98. really?1?!?!
Amiad Horowitz ,   Ramat Gan, Israel   (04.17.12)
I have been one of the few people I know saying that what this guy did was wrong and that he should be punished. But how can you compare him to the Syrians in Homs?! Are you nuts?! That is no different than those that compare Israel in general, to Nazi Germany. Yet another horrible article from Ynet. Learn to write and do research please! And learn the meaning of the words before you use them.
99. THIS IS THE POLICE'S JOB, NOT THE ARMY'S.
one   (04.17.12)
CREATE PROVOCATION-GET ARRESTED AND JAILED.
100. shalom eizner I support you
Esteban ,   Argentina   (04.17.12)
Honest people are with you and support you. You are a true hero of the Jewish people.
101. #10 Said it best
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (04.17.12)
#10 said it best. Netanyahu, Barak, Gantz: history will remember what you did to Eisner.
102. Cross-eyed?
Paul ,   Jerusalem   (04.17.12)
Moral decline? Are you kidding? Abortion, self-hatred, religious-hatred, leftist-hatred, pornography, expulsions of Jews, terror supporting media outlets and organizations, atheism, adultery, pedophilia, etc. etc., is moral decline, not hitting a dumb lawless foreigner, who was obviously provoking police, for the purpose of; empowering internal enemies and De-legitimizing Israel - is degenerate moral decline. Wake up!
103. Let's be frank here
Sarah B ,   Israel/U.S.A.   (04.17.12)
Why such a fuss? I really can't see any moral redline being crossed only because a soldier act with a, say, firm way. Violent was the behaviour of that Danish scumbag. Aggressive was the attitude of a foreigner in our sacred lands assaulting our values. No, please, the officer, poor guy, was in duty and act correctfully.
104. @ 103 Sarah, have you been drinking again?
M Carr ,   Baltimore, USA   (04.17.12)
105. Did you miss the story of border police beating a 9 yr old
Ilan   (04.17.12)
Also in yesterday's news, but the child didn't first break the policeman's hand was Jewish and lives in Hebron. There is no choice but to question the motives of people who react so vociferously when the victim is a Danish anti-Israeli and violent protestor and not a settler child.
106. do IDF troops put on kippah only in religious missions?
observer ,   Egypt   (04.17.12)
107. foolish religious rabbis ruin everything
observer ,   Egypt   (04.17.12)
Despite officer’s violent confrontation of “price tag” activists, those adomites support Eisner. They should be dismissed and non-religious ones assigned.
108. Sarah B; some infantry brigades have50%+ religious solders
observer ,   Egypt   (04.17.12)
Eisner, who has been suspended, is the son of the late Rabbi Benny Eisner, a close disciple (and the former chauffer) of Rabbi Tzvi Yehuda Kook, the spiritual father of the settler movement. Eisner is part of a cadre of younger religious officers climbing their way into the IDF leadership.
109. assumes facts not in the record
clear light ,   alaska   (04.17.12)
The writer assumed Eisner hit the protestor without provocation. Yet Eisner has a fractured hand that resulted in the protestor hitting him with a stick. That at least is the story on Arutz Sheva. What is very disturbing is that the Jew is assumed to be wrong using the often falsified and heavily edited material the protestors post to the internet. Prudence requires an inquiry into the facts before the op ed columnist condems.
110. 1. Ester and Ynet moderator
Baruch Jamili ,   Bat Yam   (04.17.12)
You may disagree with the views of the writer but your language tells a story of its own about you. Ynet Moderator Should Not Have Allowed The Language You Used. And it suggests a bias towards extreme blindness deafness and dumbness on the part of both, for the behaviour of a man wearing senior officer rank and wearing a kippah was reprehensible. He is likely to be dismissed from his job. He should be banned from the army at best and at worst reduced to the ranks and given a post where he has no command responsibilities. And if you don't yet get the true picture of what we have become, check out Talkbacker 4. We have become morally bankrupt in our paranoia.
111. to 103 - You are not Sarah B. -why are
m r ,   israel   (04.17.12)
you hiding ??
112. moral decline???????
tiki ,   belgium   (04.17.12)
The fact that a brainwashed foreign citizen can fly over to Israel, (a country/people he despises), to agitate & protest against, is in itself an *act of provocation! The fact that Israel allows these people to roam the streets freely and prevents an Israeli colonel to do his job, is in itself an *act of moral decline! The person, by writing this ridiculous article, is in itself an *act of selfloathing when seeing his own stupid face in the mirror this morning!
113. Eisner, the barbarian in the gates of the Holy Land.
Rich ,   Toronto, Canada   (04.17.12)
YNET news may not have high standards, but the behavior of this Israeli officer is a disgrace to anyone calling themselves a human being.
114. Eisner
MGray38 ,   Miami, USA   (04.17.12)
These protesters were foreign provocateurs who got what they deserved from the IDF. Personally, I think Shalom Eisner should get a medal. Wonder what would happen in Denmark if 250 Jews were to bike through the country protesting current hostile Danish policy towards Israel and refuse orders from legal authorities to cease and desist.
115. Ugly face of Israel
Sam M ,   UK   (04.17.12)
The only ugly face of Israel are these hateful activists and in particular the smug look on the danish yeti's face as he brazenly challenged a direct order to disperse from a serving IDF officer having previously, if accounts I have read are correct been directly responsible for breaking the officers fingers. I hope that the backlash from this shameful incident will lead to restrictions on the activities of these morons who campaign openly to delegitimise Israel. If that doesn't happen then the next best thing will be harsh crowd control measures to bring 'activists' quickly into line. I would like to see the Lt Col back on the front line with new rules of engagement and given a refresher course in the use of a baton which should be used unsparingly on these muppets!
116. Lt. Col Eisner should be fined
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (04.17.12)
The M-16 stock is not designed for that purpose and he most likely weakened it. Needs to use something with a nice solid wooden or metal butt instead.
117. Thanks, Ziv Lencher, for your perspective
Ben Alofs ,   Bangor, UK   (04.17.12)
What amazes me, is not your article, which I quite agree with, but the vicious and hateful responses it gets in the Talkbacks. Much of these are of the usual crowd of rightwing fanatics, who see nothing wrong with a military officer smashing his rifle in the face of an unarmed activist. Some even call the Danish youngster a "terrorist" or an "anti-semite" showing how deluded and in denial they are. Eisner's behaviour is just one of the many outcomes of the rot that set in when Israel occupied the Westbank, Gaza, East-Jerusalem and the Golan Heights. It is the behaviour of an occupation army. The incident did not happen within "sovereign" Israel, but in occupied Palestine (the Jordan valley). The rightwing denies that there is occupation or that the Palestinians under occupation have lived there since time immemorial. I remember the warnings given by philosopher Yehoshua Leibowitz, while he still was alive. What he predicted is happening now.
118. Oh shut up
daniel   (04.17.12)
What a completely idiotic article. Is the author looking for a career as an Israel basher? It pays well....
119. Colonel Eisner can only be blamed for...
Maurice ,   Montreal   (04.17.12)
...stupidity for falling into the trap of these hate mongers who were obviously looking for anti-Israel PR. The Danish antisemitic troublemaker deserved more than what he got, but soldiers in Israel are trained to resist high stress and frustration dealing with foreign terrorist supporters to avoid precisely falling into this sort of anti-Israel PR traps. The reasons for Eisner's falling into such a trap must be understood by IDF and corrected.
120. Switch blade
banshee ,   ireland   (04.17.12)
He also had a throwaway pistol and a hand grenade and wore a swastika armband: Deserved all that happened to him. Thank goodness for the most -civil military in the world. Finally the Black and Tans have lost their premier standing.
