The online report doesn't show what was in the printed newspaper: targets with faces of Palestinians on them. How dehumanizing is that?? Like many, we as a family partook in an historical hike in the footsteps of the lamed hai, secular leftists who in 48 undertook a doomed rescue mission of religious kibbutzim in Gush Etzion. When we debriefed over dinner (at our favorite restaurant in Abu Ghosh btw) my then 14 year old took away the lesson of solidarity, sacrifice and commitment to a higher goal. Vengeance and killing or hatred of Arabs did no enter into discussion. (and yes for historical and security reasons I believe the Gush should be retained by Israel as part of the border adjustment in the final settlement.)

That they're Palestinians, I mean. Are these any particular or noteworthy Palestinians that would be easily identified, then? Such as, say, actual terrorists? Because, while that would nevertheless make it a banal and foolish show, it would not make it dehumanization of Palestinians. Those *specific* Palestinians dehumanized themselves a long, long time ago. And unless you can actively show that that the range claimed and advertised that these terrorists represent all Palestinians or all Arabs, you'd remain in the wrong.

And then you make that wild leap of logic that every Palestinian becomes a target. Shooting ranges have man-sized and man-shaped targets as a rule. That's in any shooting range you might enter. The clay pigeons you refer to are from a tradition of hunting, an imitation of the same pheasants. Shooting at cardboard targets is not wrong in and by itself. Or dehumanizing. And I do not see any claims that children or helpless old men are terrorists from the text of the article - that is simply the conclusion *you* reached. Re-read the text. It doesn't even mention Palestinians. Or Arabs. It mentions a former military man now working as a range instructor putting up a show, with man-sized targets. It also disgusted me to see 5 year old holding rifle and learning to shoot. These tourists have to be taught that this is a survival course - not something to be enjoyed and bragged about. But I imagine the cameras were clicking all the time for souvenir pictures.

I can perhaps understand the people there teaching self defense,even if I dont agree with them being there in the first place..but this? There is a world of difference. The Gaza children don't have to worry about having their throats slit in the middle of the night. The Gaza children don't have to worry about their neighbors wanting to push them into the sea. The Gaza children are taught to kill a person simply because they are a Jew. In this case children are not being taught to kill because of race but in defence against terrorists. You can tolerate terrorists in Tallahassee if you want but others shouldn't have to.
