There was no Palestinian state. There was no Palestinian prior to 1967. King Hussein proclaimed in 1967 that the declaration of the Palestine extended the war that the Arabs lost. After many years of warring, the parties to the conflict are too stuck in their positions. They are unable to think creatively and are bringing up future leaders who will not change anything. The only remaining hope is that a solution will be imposed by outside powers. Great Powers and the UN can do it starting today. Impose equally on all the involved parties in the conflict and achieve supervised secure coexistence for enough time to allow new generations of leaders to grow up, leaders with new ideas and creativity. They will be the leaders of peaceful coexistence and intervention from the outside will no longer be needed.

It's not about what is "right" or "moral" or "legal" it's about what is best for Israel's long-term survival. And the status quo projected into the future is not acceptable and not conducive for a thriving Israel. We cannot have forever war because all it takes is for us to lose once and we will lose Israel. Almost all of the above objections to the article point to the past as "proof" that ending the occupation won't work. But the bottom line is that it is not the 1930s, it is not 1967, and it is not 2005. It is 2013 (almost) and we need to look at the dynamics of 2013. And the dynamics are that the present situation is untenable and the world is slowly (but surely) beginning to unite around the idea that Israel is an international pariah that needs to be confronted. We can continue to ignore this, or continue to say it is our "right" to continue the occupation. But doing so will put our nation at risk as it WILL bring on international sanctions and the indictment of our leaders. The choice truly is ours and it's time we make the only choice that ensures continued American support, takes away European desire to sanction us, and allows us to reach an agreement with the moderate Arabs/Muslims who will accept Israel's existence if the Palestinians are given a state. In short, we need to stop being so afraid.
