1. No downside to Israels help maybe even some good will emerge
Rafi ,   US   (11.20.13)
I have no illusions about Hamas' objectives, but Segal's alternative policy is just as backward: one that enshrines perpetual hatred, emnity and losses on all sides...
2. After all: it's Judaism that invented Jesus, right?
tom ,   tel aviv   (11.20.13)
3. Humanitarian action on Hanniyeh granddaughter
Nestor Berdichevsky ,   Neuquen Argentina   (11.20.13)
It was an extraordinaire action to peace. Children aren't guilty of adults sick.
4. i dont agree with the author
Fad Egypt   (11.20.13)
the move is a humanterian move, not a political one, Israel has been opened to thousands of palestinians who need medical care, also the syrians who fled the civil war, so it is not the first time Israel does something like that, and such moves are humaniteran moves, it has nothing to do with politics, and i am against using the christians as a model for comparison, i dont find it strange to see the jews behave like the christians because both of them follow the same teaching of the torah and when Jesus said love your enemies, his call didnt contradict with the torah teaching shalom
5. She's a child!
Curtis ,   USA   (11.20.13)
Babies do not have much guile at her age. How could any decent person not love a child? Every individual needs to be judged on his or her own merits. Maybe she will even grow up to be a friend of Israel.
6. they kill the israeli children and we should help theirs? NO
(11.20.13)
7. on the same level as 'papal righteousness..
tiki ,   antwerpen   (11.20.13)
As there is no proven papal righteousness, only perceived papal righteousness, there is no golden opportunity for the beautiful Israeli face, which by definition is perceived as ugly & subhuman by a majority in the world community and exposes Israeli's as the ultimate fryers by anyone in his right mind.
8. Author is wrong
Aiman ,   Jersey   (11.20.13)
I tip my hat to the Israelis on this. I would like to think that Arabs would do the same but I dunno.
9. reap what you sew
Steve   (11.20.13)
I am a very compassionate individual however I fully agree with Hagai's assertions. I recall several years ago reading about a ten year old boy who had his leg blown off in front of his younger brother by a kassam fired upon Sderot. A truly horrifying image. Perhaps Hamas would be motivated to invest greater effort in developing a better medical infrastructure should some of their leaders' family members perish due to Hamas' obsession with killing Jewish children at the expense of a functional society. ( besides we all know that after she is discharged the blood libels from Hamas will continue unabated )
10. Hanieh shud open his bunker under the Gaza Hospital as a
Alan ,   SA   (11.20.13)
Paediatric Ward .But unfortunately it needs to be kept as a control room to direct rockets at Israel. Hanieh sends all his relatives to Israel hospitals. but sent that Femail suicide bomber to Beersheva haospital disguised as a pregnant patient to blow the place up!
11. i agree 100% . Stop with this 'christian' state of mind
(11.20.13)
12. TO 5 You are pathetic. Do u think about the jewish children
(11.20.13)
...that Hamas are killing !
13. This is the kind of logic I'd expect from a Hamas member
Nir ,   Tel Aviv   (11.20.13)
14. peace: Chamberlain or Truman??
Larry ,   LA (formerly)   (11.20.13)
I agree totally with the author. We are only proving to our enemies that we are totally stupid. The next thing you know is that we will be treating Hezbollah's wounded soldiers and giving them kisses on their butts to boot. We should be friendly with our friends and treat our enemies as enemies until they decide that it is to their advantage to be our friends. As long as we act stupidly, they have no incentive to change. Look at Japan: after the US dropped the atomic bomb on them they quickly changed their minds and have made peace that has lasted now almost seventy years. Do we want peace? Let us look to those who achieved peace. Not Chamberlain's peace, but that of Harry Truman.
15. The "most pious Christians"?? how idiotic.
bob k ,   orlando fl usa   (11.20.13)
The moral question aside for now, does this writer not know that being moral is what Judaism is all about: 'You shall love the other as yourself' is the greatest moral teaching, (many Christians like to think that they invented this and other Jewish teachings). This Torah teaching is what Israel is doing and in so doing Israel is acting according to its moral teachings. It is the lesson that ancient Israel declared to the world, it is up to humanity to learn this lesson or else millions will be murdered for all time. What a waste of life. Islam does not teach this morality , nor have Christians generally practiced it.in their behavior and attitudes towards Jews for 2000 years. You can disagree with this policy but only a complete ignoramus and fool would call this 'pious Christian behavior'. Does Hagai Segal not know about Christian persecution and massacres of Jews and other 'non-believers' throughout the past 1000 years? The Holocaust happened because of Christian anti-Semitism. Christians are not the moral model for humanity, Jews are. Which of course, does not mean that every Jew is moral; it does mean that Jews as a whole are a people deeply concerned with morality and generally loving, caring for, helping the other. Israel is daily taking in wounded Syrian civilians, without asking if they are anti-Israel or anti-Jewish. We in Israel do not target Palestinian civilians just because the Palestinian terror groups target our civilians, we take precautions to avoid civilians when attacking terror targets. Sometimes I read or hear the utter naivity or stupidity of some Israelis regarding the world at large or especially Europeans, I wonder about their sense of reality.
16. Compassion and Love will always win
Samuel ,   Billings USA   (11.20.13)
She is an innocent child. Providing healing and compassion will always defeat hate and bullets in the long run. It is not rocket science.
17. That is the difference between them and us.
David ,   Montreal, Canada   (11.20.13)
18. added to #15
Avram Goldsmith ,   Toronto, Canada   (11.20.13)
Meital as complete ignoramus and usser of bombastic termonology to impress without any depth of thinking so much characteristic to Jews of self denial and political correctness motivated and illiterate. Your title Meital is wrong as your edidor which is is cheap talking and mindless.
19. grandaughter
Mical ,   somewhere   (11.20.13)
Send her back eith no treatments.let him go through the pain that causes others to go through, it's the only way he might change. And, the Torah does not obligate to help the ones who harmed you.and being part of this family includ them all.
20. Thank, God...the Jews' are acting like Christians!!!
Jake Stone ,   USA   (11.20.13)
God bless'em!!!
21. The israeli doctors engagement to save life..
Beary White ,   Norway   (11.20.13)
..can never be questioned. G_d bless them for their work. On the other side, I would never thrust any Islamic doctor or the norwegian doctors Gilbert and Fosse, know from their gaza PR-trip. It must be noted Mads Gilbert is excluded from doctors sans frontiers due to his political view and way of action.
22. We are not more pius than pope - we are Jews!
Yael Schlichting ,   Munich   (11.20.13)
Please never mix this up. Never compare us with the infidels!
23. This is a good thing
Naftali ,   Modiin Israel   (11.21.13)
This article is stupid he should have taken the time instead to write a story of how Israel is helping their enemies granddaughter the type of story that could get world wide coverage so as to help Israel instead he wrote this which really has zero value to anyone. right now we can use all the good will we can get not to mention that she is not him she is his granddaughter.
24. #12
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (11.21.13)
Children are children be they Jewish or Muslim. This has nothing to do with Hamas. Curtis isn't pathetic you are and pathetic doesn't begin to describe you. The word disgusting also comes to mind.
25. Israel is loved ...........................................
Luiz F Haddad ,   Niteroi, Brazil   (11.21.13)
for that kind of excellent acts. They show her greatness, and the high dignity of Jewish people. Hanieh's granddaughter is a child, with health's problems, and she was treated by a humanistic State. Shame on radical Palestinian leaders. God bless Israel forever.
26. #2
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (11.21.13)
Jesus is not an invention. We do have a lot to thank Judaism for though.
27. if this is the bridge to peace we must cross it.
sam ,   usa   (11.21.13)
28. To a westerner this is
Harry ,   New Zealand   (11.21.13)
just common decency . To deny a child treatment because its grandfather is your enemy is beyond belief. Its monstrous! Do you have to be a Christian to think that way? I certainly hope not because my country is opening its arms to people from all around the world regardless of their faith.
29. Haman's Grandchildren
zelig ,   memphis   (11.21.13)
I have read that [Snhedrin 96b] Haman's grandchildren learned Torah in Bnei Brak.Is it not too far fetched to think that Hashem could take the grandaughter of a miscreant and make her into a mentch?
30. SAME OLD SAME OLD
David ,   New York, NY   (11.21.13)
Building goodwiil...we need friends, etc. Therefore we will APOLOGIZE for defending against the flotilla that originated in Turkey. Great results! Now this... It only provides our enemies with a picture of a weak, desperate nation and feeds their hopes that they will sooner or later wipe out Israel. These kinds of actions are EXTREMELY FOOLISH!
