1. disagreement
Sam Nathan ,   Sydney   (08.10.14)
10,000 people turn up to a pro-Israel rally in Sydney with a Jewish community of 50,000. Pretty good isn't it? And if I were a Parisian Jew I wouldn't have much faith in the police after their inability to protect a Jewish congregation from being blockaded and attacked in a Synagogue. It's sad, but it's certainly not disappointing.
2. Jews at pro-Israel parade
Marcia Zax ,   Ithaca NY USA   (08.10.14)
More important, Jewish Communities all over the US have run emergency fund raising campaigns to raise money for Israel and are also using social media to advocate for Israel in the PR war. Jewish Federation started with a goal of 10 million and then raised that to 30 million dollars. I dont know how much was raised, and I am sure other groups also ran emergency campaigns. So yes the numbers at these rallies were low, but they alone are not the only measure of support. And in France they are right to be afraid - the police did very little to protect Jews from being attacked - sadly it was the French version of JDL that protected the 200 Jews beseiged in a synagogue in Paris until the police showed up hours later!?
3. If it is New Zealand style vigil.....
Jerome ,   New Zealand   (08.10.14)
I am glad I stayed away. The organisers asked for a silence vigil for the children of both Gaza and Israel. That's wrong. My sign should have read " We fight the terrorists young and adults on behalf of you coward gutless West".
4. " feel a connection " - dude, I did step out of home
Miron ,   USA   (08.10.14)
for the past 3 years, searching for jobs and keeping up one I have. Besides, at 1200 USD round - trip I can't come to you from Seattle like California. There is absolutely nothing understandable about that. It's a shame. But let's ask more realistic question. Why didn't IDF appoint Gaby Ashkenazi COS. He doesn't need to fly in from Seattle as I do. You don't need even to make him do that by force...
5. It was on Monday afternoon in NYC
Avi ,   USA   (08.10.14)
it was called late friday for monday afternoon. if it had been sunday manhattan would have been shut and the police would have had a big secuirity risk. Almost every Jews or Israeli in NY wants Hamas destroyed.
6. don't disregard
Vanessa ,   miami fl   (08.10.14)
I strongly disagree with you that Jews in NY have nothing to fear. Have you been there recently? Every corner that used to have kosher hot dogs now sells hallal instead. A few weeks ago i asked my husband to attend the pro Israel rally in Miami without our boys out of fear of what pro hamas groups could do. Do not disregard our support for Israel just because we don't attend rallies and more important, don't underestimate the real rise of antisemitism in the us.
7. People have lives
Dov ,   London   (08.10.14)
Many Jews in major European capitals support Israel, Have homes in Israel and travel to Israel to actively support Israel. However many Jews also have families and work commitments. I personally have just returned from Israel I own a home there and I did some volunteer work in a Hospital in the South (I am a surgeon registered to practice in Israel also). I would never consider going to a rally in London. Quite frankly I am just too busy. This may sound a little lame but I believe actually being in Israel and contributing is more important that standing in the rain being sworn at by anti-semites in Trafalgar square on a Sunday. It is more than enough all week having to constantly explain the situation at work to everyone. It takes a particular type of person to march through the streets with placards and flags and this is not suited to all. There are different ways of showing support.
8. where were the worlds jews
jason alster ,   wethersfield , ct   (08.10.14)
on facebook / stop looking for negatives
9. disagreement
Sam Nathan ,   Sydney   (08.10.14)
10,000 Jews attended a pro-Israel rally in Sydney last weekend in a community with just 50,000 Jews. If i were a Parisian Jew I wouldn't have much faith in the authorities when just two weeks ago the police and riot squad could not control extremists from vandalising a Synagogue, blockading the congregation inside and assaulting those who were at the entrance. It's sad, not disappointing.
10. Stand up American Jews !
Yoelarry ,   New York City   (08.10.14)
What did you do American Jew in 2012 or 1942 'cause business was good and they didn't come for You? What did you do when the world turned it's head and six million Jews were soon to be dead but you just didn't know and business was slow and the kids needed shoes no time for some Jews. What will you do American Jew As the nations align our Homeland maligned and the sword is unsheathed for the whole world to see... yet our president balks at the ominous news saving words of rebuke for 'intransigent' Jews and six million more getting ready to die? What will you do and what will you say when the question is asked that won't go away... that you watched and you waited your life unabated and just didn't care to risk such a dare ... and the grandsons ' made Harvard, hooray.
11. Demonstration numbers
ISAAC cOPPERMAN ,   bnei brak   (08.10.14)
I totally agree but unfortunately it is nothing new. How many Jews in Britain and USA were involved against Hitler in the 1930? And how many were ACTIVELY involved in caring for refugees AFTER the war? Sure, they were all sympathetic from the comfort of their armchairs. That's life!
12. Tell ya, thar gruesome pics from Gaza turnin' everyone off.
Michael ,   California, USA   (08.10.14)
Seriously now, have you seen such horrifying pictures since the time the Warsaw uprising was bombed out by the Nazis in 1944? I have not. Look at the pictures, Mr. Journalist, look at the pictures from Gaza and you'll know why Jews are hiding their heads in shame in Paris, London, New York, Moscow and Buenos Aires.
13. It's hard to be proud of some of the things we've been doing
Bruno ,   Haifa   (08.10.14)
Hamas has enticed Israel into doing all the things it shouldn't be doing - killing civilians, women and children, losing soldiers in an incomplete and unsatisfactory ground operation. Israel is making it LESS secure to be a Jew or an Israeli both in Israel and outside of Israel.
14. I've lived in the Galut my entire life.
Al   (08.10.14)
Let me tell you in simple terms that the average Jew in the galut has no pride whatsoever. He is a tool, who is weak, soft and simply a putz on steroids. I have yet to meet a Jew who hunts and knows his way in the woods. Very seldom do you meet a Jew in the galut who is proud, sure and knows what it is all about. The only future for the Jew is in Israel. Thank You God for showing my kids that their future is only in Israel.
15. Simple Explanation
Paul ,   Kenya   (08.10.14)
Jews love the Golden Calf far more than G-D or Jewish causes. Very sad when money has more meaning than dignity.
16. do not blame them
(08.10.14)
If armed Jews in independent Israel are too frightened to protect themselves against Hamas that proudly calls for genocide, what do you want from a tiny frightened minority who live as guests in their country of residence? In Israel, protesters against Leftist policies were mercilessly beaten by police and threatened by the justice system (remember Amona) while police were ordered to do nothing against pro-Left protesters. With a pro-genocide for Jews foreign press and leaders like Obama, and police support for Hamas and hatred for Jews, the Jews have no choice but to lock themselves indoors and pray they won't hear that dreaded knock on the door.
17. Pro Israel Protest in NY
Jud ,   Israel   (08.10.14)
While Agudas Israel was able to stage a protest in NYC against the Israeli Draft Law numbering 50,000, no such support was displayed according to Noah Klieger. The lack of solidarity on the part of Ultra-Orthodox Jews when Israel is fighting for its life and that of its citizenry is shameful. Somethings one cannot get used to!
18. Sorry, I‘m not a sick psychopath
Rich ,   Toronto, Canada   (08.10.14)
who supports Israel for murdering women and children in the Gaza. There is no honor in slaughtering innocent civilians who can‘t fight back. No human being, in his or her right frame of mind, can accept what Israel is doing. If my fellow Jews are really smart, they will get peace with the Muslim world.
19. 18 Rich
alsky ,   Toronto   (08.10.14)
poor soul. You have it backwards. you need to learn more about Islam and then it will start to make sense.
20. Aug. 7 Pro- Israel Rally in Boston draws 3,000 people
Roberta Gross-Torres ,   Boston, Mass. USA   (08.11.14)
According to the Times of Israel, 3,000 people attended a "We Stand with Israel" rally in Boston's City Hall Plaza on 7th of August. Unfortunately, it was not covered by any local news media.
21. World's Jews
EF Barasch ,   Sacramento USA   (08.11.14)
The World's Jews were getting ready to celebrate the destruction of Hamas' Missile launching capacity before starting the celebration. Nu?
22. And the Brits....
Sickened   (08.10.14)
Are silent. They're not even mentioned and no one notices. They don't change, do they. Boo to them all.
23. Worth further investigation
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (08.10.14)
Here in London over the years we have had two major demos in Trafalgar Square with about 30,000 people, but the most recent, organised in a rush as the school year ended, got only about 5,000 [estimates vary] Perhaps demos are no longer the fashion and people prefer to assist with many efforts to help those in the war zone. The coverage of the riots in Paris at a supposely legal and authorised rally may have put people off. Here in London we avoid any offense possible, with mottos like 'Free Gaza . . . from Hamas'.
24. author's ignorance profound
Larry ,   LA (formerly)   (08.10.14)
Paris? For a Jew to go out in the street with a kippa on is to incite a riot and risk being killed. French Jews are making alliyah in record numbers; didn't you see? World wide? Maybe 96% of the Jews support Israel and give money to help. I think the author of this piece is a bit dim. Better for YNet to remove this trash and put up a recipe for gefilte fish or felafel than to let this obviously out of touch author continue to shame himself.
25. #12 & #18
donsaliman ,   Nahal Oz, Israel   (08.10.14)
You live in a safe place with nobody sending missiles or terrorist through a tunnel to kill you like I do. You are ignorant of all the facts because of the liberal media. Does it not bother both of you that every day a rocket from Gaza is sent into Israel to kill innocent people and some have died from these rockets. Do you know where Hamas is shooting these missiles from? I will tell you from private homes, schools, Hospitals UN property, these are some of the places they shoot from. They wear no uniform, so how do we know if they are soldiers or not, a child is killed but children from 14 and up are also soldiers and even CNN and NY Times are questioning the numbers killed that Hamas gives out, everybody who dies in Gaza today whether it is a natural cause, accident, and you notice not one Hamas soldier is ever killed, all you see is children.
26. Supporting Israel
tiki ,   belgium   (08.10.14)
It's not because the Arab/Muslim & friends are demonstrating against everything Israeli, Jews must follow their example! On the contrary!!!!!! The locals are getting pretty fed up with another & another & another pro Palestinian demo with the usual suspects & paroles, disrupting their cities! Like Ben Gurion said, "it doesn't matter what the ignorant masses are screaming, it matters what the Israeli's are doing"! Stop getting nervous about Muslim lynch mobs & their ignorant followers from the Left! 90% of Jews stand strongly behind Israel and show it in different more effective ways (on line) and the rest can protest together with the Muslims if that makes them feel better. Their judgement day will come when they are not needed any more and will be spat out by the same ''''friends they so fervently support.
27. The reason is simply...shame.
Avi ,   NYC, USA   (08.11.14)
Apparently, most of the Jews in the world are somewhat disgusted by what Israel is doing to the Palestinians. I am sure that to Mr. Klieger, who sees a Nazi behind every olive tree and to whom every Palestinian kid is a potential SS member, this is hard to understand. It only shows that most Jews are normal and decent people.
28. Anti-Zionism, Anti-Israel virus created by Noam Chomsky,
virusCure   (08.10.14)
Phyllis Bennis, Amy Goodman, Michael Lerner, Philip Weiss, Richard Silverstein must be erased like the Hamas charter, and its supporters from Tehran. Under Obama - the virus became stronger. The US Jewish organizations, ADL, Federations, Presidents Conferences are wasting money, and are not a cure against the virus.
29. Diaspora Jews Are Ashamed Of Israel
World Citizen ,   the world   (08.10.14)
It's hard to show your face in support of genocide and apartheid.
30. #25 from Nahal Oz, Time to start something new.
Michael ,   California, USA   (08.11.14)
Yes, I am writing this from a "safe place", luckily, and I take this opportunity to look at a bigger picture. Allow me, for a moment, to reflect on your situation. You are suffering, I know and feel it. Your home is not safe and the enemy is out to kill you in the kibbutz. This enemy must be destroyed, we are in full agreement on that. But the pictures I had in mind (#12) do not show an enemy. The pictures show simple, normal people who suffer in Gaza, people like you perhaps. These people are neither martyrs nor victims, just like you aren't a martyr or victim in your suffering. You will bounce back and so will the Gazans. You and them are so much alike that it is inconceivable that you will not find a way to end this cycle of violence which has been going on for so long. Both of you must find a way to stop the war cycles, find a way to coexist. You and the Gazans must rethink the past events and start something new that will involve both of you without relying on armaments and shooting. It is possible, yes it is.
