The annual sale of Israeli and Jewish art, held last weekend in New York, yielded $3.4 million in profits, according to the Sotheby's auction house.
More than 70% of the items put up for sale were sold, 55% of them for prices higher than the early estimates.
Yaakov Agam broke his own record and that of any Israeli artist when his "Growth" painting was sold for $698,500. The best-selling Israeli work of art up to now was a Mordechai Ardon creation sold for $643,200.
The sale's other "stars" included a Marc Chagall work sold for $218,000, a Reuven Rubin painting sold for $188,000, a Yehezkel Streichman creation sold for $110,000 and a Yosl Bergner painting sold for $74,000.
Other Israeli artists whose works were sold for record prices are Tsibi Geva, Maya Gold and Gal Weinstein.
