US: KKK mistakenly invites African Americans to join

Racist group's Charlotte chapter sends invitation to local African American girl and other residents who want nothing to do with it. President: We’re not trying to recruit blacks

Charlotte, North Carolina's local KKK chapter has been mistakenly sending out invitations to join the group to African Americans, CBS Charlotte reported this week.

According to the report, an African American girl who lives in the West Ashley’s Pierpont neighborhood received an invite to join the Klan. She later turned in the invite to the Sheriff's office.

CBS Charlotte said other people in the area "who want nothing to do with the KKK" also received unwanted invitations to join the racist organization, and they also reported it to authorities.

However, local police officials said that sending out invites and recruiting is not against the law, so they will not be taking any action.

Thomas Arthur Robb, national president of the KKK was quoted as telling local newspapers, “If a black person got it (invitation), it’s just an accident. We’re not trying to recruit blacks.”

Also in the US this week, a Fox affiliate in Florida portrayed a group of Neo-Nazis as "a civil rights group" that wanted to protect white citizens in the aftermath of the Trayvon Martin shooting.

A story on MyFoxOrlando.com was posted Saturday with the headline, "Civil rights group patrolling Sanford," referring to the National Socialist Movement.

The headline was later changed to "Neo-Nazi group patrolling Sanford," but not before the political blog website Little Green Footballs produced a screengrab (SEE HERE) of the original headline.

After changing the headline, MyFoxOrlando.com added an Editor's Note to the bottom of the story, saying, "The report originally published Saturday inadvertently referred to the National Socialist Movement as a civil rights group. We intended to refer to them as a 'self-proclaimed' civil rights group."
