An Israeli woman participating in a Desert Queen expedition in India was killed Friday, after one of the jeeps in the convoy flipped over in Lahaul Valley. Two other women sustained light to moderate injuries and were rushed to a hospital in the town of Kullu.

The Foreign Ministry stated Friday that Israeli Consul to New Delhi Eyal Siso is making arrangements to transport the body of Gedera resident Shoshana Maizel, 63, back to Israel. The two injured women will be transferred to another hospital, and from there to New Delhi before departing back to Israel.

Maizel's family was informed on Friday afternoon she had been injured in a road accident. Around midnight on Saturday, they were told that Maizel died of her wounds in the hospital, which she reached 10 long hours after the accident.

"She was such a wonderful woman, always loving and caring for everyone. The eldest of 10 siblings, she would always call and help all of them," said Yossi Sodmi, Shoshana's vrother.

Desert Queen organizer, the Geographical Company, expressed deep sorrow over the accident. "Immediately after learning of the accident, we dispatched all the company's emergency teams to the scene and they did whatever they could to help. However, (Maizel's) condition deteriorated and she died at the hospital. Our hearts are with the family, and we wish a speedy recovery to the injured."
