Deputy Defense Minister Danny Danon was elected head of the Likud convention late Tuesday. He won 85% of the ballots, though only 27% of eligible Likud members voted.

Danon is also running for the chairmanship of the Likud Central Committee, along with Ness Ziona Mayor Yossi Shavo and Michael Fuah, a member of the national Orthodox Jewish Leadership group. The vote will take place on Sunday.
In a meeting with party activists Tuesday, Danon pledged to revitalize the party if he is elected chairman of the Central Committee.
"Today's results will have one clear message: The Likud is returning to the field," he said. "We’ll bring back to Likud the living spirit, the young, ideological spirit."
About a week ago Shavo criticized the Likud, saying it has become a haven for extremists. "The Feiglins and Yisrael Beiteinu are not the real Likud," he said.
"We must bring the power back to the Central Committee." Moshe Feiglin heads the rightist Jewish Leadership faction of the Likud party.
