The verdict noted that the Filipino lived with an elderly couple and treated the deceased's husband. It was further noted that the therapist and the victim had argued in reference to comments she had made regarding his performance and behavior.

In September 2011, the caregiver approached the victim in her sleep and began touching and caressing her. The event took place while the deceased's husband was sleeping next to her in the bed. The woman threatened she would call the police, and the caregiver pleaded she would not tell anyone about the incident. However, the man later discovered that the victim called the therapist's manpower agency and requested for him to be replaced.
Three days after this incident, the therapist raped the elderly woman. Despite her screams, he strangled her while saying "I'm sorry grandma," and raped her again that night. He said to her in English that he does not want to kill her, but on the other hand explained to her that he must do so out of fear she would tell her children about what happened.
"Despite her pleas, Amour strangled her with a pillow which blocked her breathing and caused her death," the verdict noted. The caregiver then noticed the police and jumped off from the fifth floor, leaving him paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair.

Horror film
The judges noted that "the events that led to the tragic death of the deceased are difficult to hear and read, and it seems they were taken out of a horror film. The scenario, in which someone slept next to the victim during these acts, while the defendant as his caregiver is aware of his condition, is extremely cynical and cruel. The defendant knew that even if the man were to wake up and see what he was doing, considering his condition, he could never tell what his eyes had seen."
The judges further added that "it is clear that when a person reaches an elderly age, he requires close assistance and supporting and loving family members wish to provide the best care possible – they cannot expect such cruel, heinous and detestable behavior by those who were trusted and entrusted with their beloved parents."
