Terror on the road: Jerusalem plagued by stone throwing

Dozens of citizens' complaints result in arrest, indictment against Issawiya teens who hurled stones, firebombs in Mount Scopus area

A woman was lightly wounded on Tuesday after stones were hurled at her car near the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem. This incident was the latest in an ever growing line of nationalistically motivated attacks in Israel's capital. Members of two terror cells were arrested on suspicion of involvement and were charged.

Earlier this month, firebombs were hurled at the watchtower in the Hadassah Mount Scopus Hospital. Assailants also tried to torch the nearby army base.

Dozens of complaints began to surface and led police to take action, resulting in the arrest of a minor on suspicion of hurling a burning tire at the base.

The boy divulged the cell's MO and led to the arrest of 10 Arab teens from Issawiya who hurled Molotov cocktails and stones at the base and the Hebrew University.

Police claim they are members of two terror cells. An investigation suggests they are associated with the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine and had planned to target soldiers as well as civilians. An indictment has been filed against them.

Five of the suspects were charged with weapons production, aggravated battery, arson and attempted arson. According to the indictment, the suspects hurled firebombs at the Ofarit base as well as at military and civilian vehicles.

"We saw large bricks on the road," said Yair who came under attack with his girlfriend near the Hebrew University. "We saw young guys waiting for us with the rocks. When we reached the spot, they started hurling stones at us and one of them hit the car and caused minor damage.

"We stopped the car when the rocks couldn't reach us and called the police. The Arabs didn't run away, they tried to pelt the police car."
