IDF: Hizbullah may attack

Forces positioned along northern border on high alert due to assessments regarding possible attempts by Hizbullah to fire mortars at army outposts, abduct troops; IDF Northern Command officer: Group may attempt to carry out attack out of empathy for Palestinians

IDF forces positioned along the northern border are on high alert due to assessments regarding possible Hizbullah terror attacks against soldiers and army outposts in the area.

The increased alert level comes in light of the end of the Ramadan holiday and recent IDF activity in Gaza and the West Bank.

IDF Northern Command sources said intelligence information points to the possibility that Hizbullah may attempt to act against the IDF in a number of methods, including launching mortars at army outposts and abducting soldiers.

In the framework of high alert level, soldiers manning outposts in the region were instructed to travel along the roads only for authorized military purposes.

“Hizbullah may attempt to carry out a terror attack out of empathy for the Palestinians,” a Northern Command officer said.

“Therefore, the command has decided on these measures.”

Preventive, deterrence purposes only

IDF forces positioned in the Har Dov area along the northeast border conducted practice artillery fire to determine accuracy and range in light of the recent warnings, and senior officers are not ruling out the possibility that army helicopters and fighter jets will patrol the skies as long as the high level of alert persists.

“We have no intention of attacking, and our activity is for preventive and deterrence purposes only,” a senior IDF officer said.

“Even if explosions are heard from the northern border region, the area’s residents can continue with their daily routine, as the blasts are a result of IDF activity in the wake of the latest assessments.”
