'Hizbullah-E.U. meeting a concern'

Foreign Ministry convenes meeting with European Union representatives to express concern over meeting held between Hizbullah and Italian, French and E.U. ambassadors in Lebanon

Foreign Ministry Director-General Ron Prushor convened a meeting Thursday with European Union representatives to express concerns after the Italian, French and E.U. ambassadors in Lebanon met with Hizbullah member Mohammed Fanish.

Prushor said a meeting of this nature sends a wrong message to the world regarding the E.U.'s fight against terror.

He reiterated Israel's demand to include Hizbullah on the list of terror organizations, as it continues to support Palestinian terror organizations.

"We are requesting consistency in the European stance towards the fight against terror, especially during a time when the E.U. has requested to broaden its activities for the good of the peace process," he said.

Following the meeting, Ministry director for European groups Shmuel Ravel said "the European Union must convey a clear and unequivocal stance, that does not accept Hamas's participation - as well as Hizbullah - in elections, as long as they don’t disarm or abandon their pledge to destroy Israel."

"It is not possible to hold a weapon in the one hand and to also participate in political processes," he said.
