Amongst the famous singers she will be up against is the United Kingdom’s Leona Lewis whose participation made headlines in Britain’s The Guardian newspaper which mentioned Maimon as one of their favorites.

Russian Dima Bilan who won the Eurovision song contest will also participate.

The Israeli singer gained entry in the contest after she was chosen on the MTV Israel website.

Shiri beat the famous Izabo Israeli band on the site and also received many European votes especially after receiving fourth place in the 2005 Eurovision in Kiev.

The MTV channel’s official announcement on Maimon’s participation is expected in the days to come.

Shiri is expected to perform a new English song that she has yet to record. However, the song choice is ultimately in MTV’s hands.

'Amazing to represent Israel again'

The MTV Music Awards are amongst the most significant in the international music industry.

Mega-stars including Beyoncé and the British band Coldplay are expected to perform at the event. Rumor has it that even Britney Spears is expected to be there.

“For me, it is amazing to represent Israel in Europe again,” said Maimon.

“This may be a cliché, but it is really a dream come true to appear on an MTV stage. I will try doing the best I can, just like I love,” she said.
