Jewish teen seriously injured by stone in Hebron

Palestinians hurl large rocks at right-wing activists near disputed West Bank house, seriously wounding 15-year-old boy; 17 other rightists hurt in clashes. Palestinians say 20 people injured by settlers' stones since Monday night

Dozens injured in day of violence in Hebron: A 15-year-old boy was seriously wounded Tuesday afternoon near the disputed house in the West Bank city of Hebron, after being hit by a large rock hurled by Palestinians.

The boy, who suffered a fracture in the skull, was evacuated by a Magen David Adom rescue force to the trauma unit at the Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem and was rushed into the operating room.

Zaki Yahav, an MDA paramedic dispatched to the area, said that the rock which hit the teen's head could have caused fatal damage.

MDA Jerusalem Spokesman Danny Rothenberg said that 18 people had been treated by rescue crews in Hebron since the morning hours. In addition to the teen who suffered from serious wounds, two other people were evacuated to hospitals in light condition. Fifteen other people were treated on the scene.

A member of Hebron's Jewish settlement told Ynet in response, "The apathy and helplessness of the Border Guard, police and army are unclear and could lead to human losses. The Arabs are running wild, but not one of them is arrested.

"Instead, the security forces hurl shock and gas grenades at Jews, and it appears that the IDF and police have chosen to take sides in this battle. The atmosphere is very bad here, and a painful response will not surprise anyone," the source added.

On the other side, Palestinians claimed that the assaults and stone throwing by settlers increased over the past of hours, adding that 20 Palestinians were injured since Monday night.

According to the Palestinians, the army and police failed to gain control of the Jewish stone throwers. They added that the settlers set dogs on them.

Earlier Tuesday, right-wing activists hurled stones at Palestinians near the disputed house in the West Bank city of Hebron. The rightists claimed that the Palestinians stoned them first. Police officers and Israel Defense Forces soldiers dispatched to the scene arrested two of the activists.

Hundreds of right-wing activists arrived in the Palestinian neighborhoods near the disputed home in the night and morning hours. They smashed the windows of Palestinian vehicles and caused damage in the local Muslim cemetery. The security forces clashed with the rioters.
