The much-awaited and highly-publicized season of Giuseppe Verdi’s opera Aida to be presented by the La Scala Opera Company Milan, in conjunction with the Israeli Opera Tel-Aviv-Yafo has many drawcards which will attract capacity houses to the Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center.

Aida will be the highlight of the current opera season in Tel Aviv and has been especially chosen to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the city of Tel Aviv. The production is both spectacular and exciting and has already been very favorably reviewed in Italy.

Visiting soloists, orchestra, chorus and dancers from the La Scala Opera, Milan will visit Israel for six performances of the Franco Zeffirelli production which will feature the distinguished conductor Daniel Barenboim in the first three performances, the remaining three to be conducted by Omer Meir Wellber.

Born in Israel in 1981, Omer Meir Wellber is emerging as one of our most talented young conductors. He is Conductor-in-Residence of both the Israeli Opera Tel-Aviv-Yafo and the Raanana Symphonette, in addition to his duties as Assistant Conductor of the Israeli Opera.

The Israeli Opera Tel-Aviv-Yafo should be congratulated for the selection of this immortal work with an international cast of stars to celebrate the 100th year of Tel Aviv.

Furthermore, it should also be commended in the appointment of Wellber Omen to participate in this prestigious production. It will prove a significant step forward in building an international career. It is a courageous decision in the promotion of Israeli born talent of outstanding ability and promise.
