Leon Kalantarov, who was murdered over the weekend in the Bnei Ayish community was not raped prior to his death, his body's autopsy indicates. The seven-year-old's body was found in the house of twins Naor and Adir Sudmi, who were arrested on suspicion of his murder.

The autopsy, performed in the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute, revealed that the boy's death was caused by barehanded strangulation. Its results were turned over to the police.

Kalantarov was laid to rest in the Ashdod cemetery on Sunday. He was buried with a bag of toys.

During the funeral Leon's father emerged crying in anguish and at one point appeared to be on the verge of collapsing. Despite the fact that the funeral was a civilian one, Chevra Kadisha members read a chapter of Psalms and the father read out a Kadish.

'Safeguard children's security'

The murder had shocked many in the country, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who ordered the creation of a ministers' team with the purpose of "examining further steps we need to take in order to safeguard children's security." The team will include the ministers of finance, internal security and social affairs.

The Sudmi brothers' attorney intends to file documents indicating that the pair suffer from mental retardation and other mental conditions with the Kiryat Gat court, while the police insist that the two were of sound mind when committing the crime.

According to the law protecting people with mental disabilities, they should be interrogated only by social workers on behalf of the Ministry of Social Affairs who assist the police.

The suspects' parents stated Saturday that they were "sorry for the loss" and noted that they did not believe their sons "were capable of such acts."

They left Bnei Ayish on Friday due to the tense atmosphere and in fear they would be the subjects of local rage.
