Internal security minister, southern district police commander visit community in which seven-year-old boy was murdered last week, announced security cameras will be installed throughout community to restore residents' sense of security

Internal Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch and Southern District Police Commander Yohanan Danino visited the community of Bnei Ayish, a week after the murder of seven-year-old Leon Kalantarov.

Danino announced that cameras are to be placed throughout the community in order to restore the residents' sense of security.

Aharonovitch said he is confident that the police and all the bodies involved did a good job, but that "lessons must be learned from the case. This may not have prevented the murder, but it would have prevented other acts of violence and the parental, educational, social and police frameworks should also be involved in learning lessons and new ways of thinking.

"I came here myself to convey a clear message to the public. The Israeli public will not come to terms with a state of inaction and lack of response. We must merge all the relevant offices in order to work swiftly."

Aharonovitch and Danino visited the Kiryat Malachi police station, where they were briefed on the investigation of the Kalantarov murder. The minister offered his condolences to the child's family, and added that this is a very serious incident that must not be overlooked.

On Friday, the Kiryat Gat Magistrate's Court ordered the Sudmi twins, accused of Kalantarov's murder, under go psychological evaluation, and extended their remand by eight days.

On Wednesday, the Sudmi twins' house came under attack. Anonymous persons hurled flammable material over the fence of the house, set fire to it, and fled the scene.

One of the neighbors put the fire out before firefighters arrived at the scene. The house was empty at the time, since the family had moved out the previous day.

The twins themselves claim that they found the boy's lifeless body outside the house. Police officers found Kalantarov's dead body wrapped in nylon under the twins' bed.

According to a police source, during their investigation over the weekend, each twin gave a different testimony as to the location in which the body was found outside the house. After a meeting with their attorney, the twins' stories were set straight.
