Lord of the Dance. Based on ancient Irish folklore and some biblical references

Lord of the Dance returning to Israel

Successful Irish musical and dance production is bringing its 'Dangerous Games' show to Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Be'er Sheva and Haifa in December.

In the 18 years that have passed since its debut performance in Dublin, Lord of the Dance has become Ireland's leading export – even more than the U2 rock band.

The Irish musical and dance production is returning to Israel next month, a year and a half after its last visit, and will give 10 performances of "Lord of the Dance: Dangerous Games" in Jerusalem (December 4), Be'er Sheva (December 5), Tel Aviv (December 6, 8-9) and Haifa (December 12-13).

"The first time we came to Israel, we didn't know what to expect," recalls 22-year-old lead dancer Matt Smith. "The shows were amazing and completely sold out."

Lord of the Dance is produced by Irish-American dancer Michael Flatley, who created and choreographed the original Riverdance theatrical show, which is based on traditional Irish music and dance.

Flatley left Riverdance in 1995 and put together a competing production, Lord of the Dance, which became an empire over the years and follows the character "Lord of the Dance" and his fight against the evil dark lord "Don Dorcha" from taking over Planet Ireland. The stories are based on ancient Irish folklore and some biblical references.

"The members of the group are my best friends," says James Breen, who performs the role of Dark Lord. "It helps when you keep moving from country to country."
