Bruce Jenner in interview with Diane Sawyer. 'Courage and determination'

Caitlyn Jenner invited to Tel Aviv pride events

Tel Aviv Municipality asks former American athlete who came out as a trans woman to participate in next week's Pride Parade as LGBT community's guest of honor.

The global interest in former American athlete Bruce Jenner's new identity as a trans woman named Caitlyn has prompted the Tel Aviv Municipality to invite Jenner to participate in the 2015 Pride Month events, which are being held in support of gender equality with an emphasis on the transgender community.

"When I watched your interview with Diane Sawyer, I was amazed by your courage and determination to live your life as you please," Tel Aviv Council Member Yaniv Waizman, who is in charge of the LGBT community portfolio in the city, wrote to Jenner on behalf of the Tel Aviv Municipality.

"The fact that you opened a window into your life and revealed the personal and complex process you had gone through, and the difficulties standing in your way, has turned you into a source of inspiration for us in Tel Aviv.

"After learning about the process you went through, there have been many calls in the LGBT community to invite you to take part in Tel Aviv-Jaffa's pride events as the community's guest of honor."

Tel Aviv kicked off its gay pride events last week. The traditional Pride Parade, which attracts tens of thousands of participants every year, many of them tourists, will take place next weekend. This year, the municipality decided to hold the parade under the banner "Tel Aviv Loves all Genders."

The municipality is now waiting for Caitlyn Jenner's response to the invitation.
