A hero of selflessness and integrity: In memory of Staff Sgt. Elkana Navon
Staff Sgt. Elkana Navon, who was raised on the values of love for his country and care for others, stood out from a young age for his warm smile, generosity and remarkable maturity.
While studying at a yeshiva in Kiryat Shmona, alongside his Torah studies, he devoted his time to volunteering with Kav Lachayim, an organization that assists children with disabilities and rare syndromes. Elkana became a source of strength and inspiration to the children and those around him, guided by a deep belief that giving to others was one of life’s greatest purposes.
Courage and a willingness to charge into danger
Driven by that same sense of purpose, Elkana enlisted in the Nahal Brigade through the Hesder program. As a combat soldier, he was known for his steadiness, integrity and constant desire to advance and lead.
During an operation in Jenin while attending a squad commanders’ course, Elkana displayed extraordinary courage. When his commander was wounded, he charged first into the line of fire, putting himself between the danger and his comrades in an effort to save him.
Elkana fell a hero
Elkana was killed as he embodied, in his final actions, the values of comradeship, devotion and mutual responsibility that had guided him throughout his life. His memory and the person he was will remain forever etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Staff Sgt. Elkana Navon of the Nahal Brigade was killed on Aug. 31, 2024. He was 20.
May his memory be a blessing.
