Musician, commander and a man who loved people: Remembering Maj. Omri David
Maj. Omri David discovered music and art at an early age. The guitar became an inseparable part of his life, from practicing every day at home to playing late into the night. His friends and family remember him as a gifted and deeply expressive lead guitarist who loved people, brought those around him together and always radiated calm, wisdom and curiosity.
From a young age, Omri wanted to serve in the Givati Brigade. Before enlisting and throughout his service, he would often say, “It’s important to have good people and good commanders in the regular infantry brigades, not only in the elite units.” Later in his IDF service, he completed officer training and became a beloved and respected commander who cared devotedly for his soldiers and led with quiet confidence. After leaving the military, he worked at the Prime Minister’s Office and later in security at Ben Gurion Airport.
When the Iron Swords war broke out on Oct. 7, Omri reported for reserve duty as a deputy company commander in the Negev Brigade. He fell in battle in northern Gaza while returning fire after his radio operator was wounded.
Omri was posthumously promoted to the rank of major. His humility, patience and courage on the battlefield will continue to inspire all those who loved him.
Maj. Omri David of the 12th Brigade fell on Nov. 14, 2023. He was 27.
May his memory be a blessing.
