In memory of Staff Sgt. Shahaf Nissani: A hero of selflessness, leadership and love
Staff Sgt. Shahaf Nissani, a female lookout in the IDF Border Defense Corps, was a true princess, raised in a warm and loving home, and a caring sister who brought light and joy to everyone around her.
A graduate of Nof Yam School who studied graphics in Ashkelon, Shahaf stood out for her artistic talent. With her infectious smile and sensitive nature, she had a gift for noticing those around her, reaching out to anyone who felt alone and making sure everyone felt welcome and loved.
Fought to become a lookout
As she prepared for her military service, Shahaf fought to secure a position as a lookout at the Nahal Oz base. There, in the operations room, she became the “mom” of the team. She was a confident, compassionate leader who looked after everyone with complete devotion.
During the terrifying events of Oct. 7, 2023, shortly before she was due to complete her military service, Shahaf showed resourcefulness, courage and an extraordinary sense of responsibility. She cared for everyone there, lending her phone to her friends so they could say goodbye to their families, and remained calm and composed until her final moments.
‘Do things for one another’
“Do things for one another, not to get something in return, but truly from the heart,” Shahaf wrote. Those words became the living legacy she left behind.
Shahaf was killed in battle at just 20 years old. She left behind a remarkable legacy of friendship, love for others, humility and unity. She made the world a better, more complete place, and her memory will continue to light our way.
Staff Sgt. Shahaf Nissani of the IDF Border Defense Corps was killed on Oct. 7, 2023. She was 20.
May her memory be a blessing.
