Joy, gentleness and light

Yair, the youngest child in his family, was a young man filled with joy, gentleness and light. A gifted musician, he played several instruments, sang and drummed whenever he had the chance, bringing a special spirit with him wherever he went. Beneath the quiet and modest manner that defined him was a strong moral core and a constant drive for excellence and spiritual curiosity.
As a commander in Givati, Yair always saw the person behind the uniform first. He led his soldiers by personal example, with attentiveness and care, and consistently chose to step outside his comfort zone for the sake of others. During the fighting in Gaza, he felt both a profound privilege and a moral duty to take part in the campaign for the revival of the people of Israel.

At the head of his platoon

In the battle in which he was killed in the Gaza Strip, Yair walked at the head of his platoon, driven by a sense of responsibility and leadership as he sought to protect his soldiers. He left behind a loving family, many friends and a powerful legacy of compassion, music, a willingness to step beyond his comfort zone and selfless devotion to his country.
Staff Sgt. Yair Hananya of the Givati Brigade was killed in action on Nov. 2, 2024. He was 22.
May his memory be a blessing.
