A man of truth and values: In memory of Sergeant First Class Hillel Diener
Sergeant First Class Hillel Diener, a soldier in the Kfir Brigade, was killed in battle in the southern Gaza Strip on Dec. 23, 2024. He was just 21.
Hillel is survived by his wife, Zehava, whom he married only about six months before his death, as well as his parents and siblings, who are working to preserve his memory and legacy.
From childhood, Hillel stood out as a person of remarkable depth and contrasts. On one hand, he was thoughtful and serious, with a strong Zionist and ideological value system. On the other, he was full of joy, humor and an endearing playful streak.
Friends and commanders remember a soldier and leader who gave himself wholeheartedly to everything he did, consistently chose the most demanding challenges and insisted on giving 100% to every mission. When he realized he was afraid of heights, he refused to let that fear hold him back. Instead, he took a rappelling course and went on to guide others.
Driven by a strong desire to contribute, Hillel enlisted in the Kfir Brigade and served as a platoon sergeant and as a member of the battalion commander’s command team, earning the admiration of both his soldiers and commanders. In his final moments during the fighting in Beit Hanoun, he displayed courage, determination and unwavering commitment to the mission.
Following his death, his family set out to honor his legacy by establishing a lookout point in his memory at the spot where he proposed to Zehava, a place that now stands as a symbol of love, remembrance and continuity. Hillel gave his life for the people and country he loved so deeply and will be remembered for his courage, devotion and strength of spirit.
