Talansky's son: Police made my father look like a fool

Alan Talansky, son of main witness in Olmert's 'cash envelopes' affair slams police during court testimony, notes he wasn't aware his father donated money to former prime minister

The son of Moshe Talansky, the main witness in the "cash envelopes" affair relating to former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and his then bureau chief Shula Zaken, testified in the Jerusalem District Court on Monday.

Alan Talansky, 48, said that he never knew his father donated funds to Olmert or any other individuals and that he himself was never involved in his father's finances.

Meanwhile Monday, Olmert, addressed the testimony of one of the former workers and the claim that he did not know the secretaries were listening to his calls. "This witness is not a Harvard graduate." He said. "Why didn't they bring Pnina, who was in charge of the secretaries in the office?"

Talansky junior, a Torah teacher and father of 11 who has been residing in Jerusalem for 18 years, noted during his testimony that he and his father share two bank accounts in Jerusalem and that he deposited two checks in December 2003 for the sum of$70,000 for one "Rabbi Talansky."

He said that he did not initiate the deposit and has no knowledge whether the money was directed to him or his father.

During his testimony Talansky confirmed that the police put pressure on his father, confused him during interrogations and made him look "like an idiot" by giving multiple versions to his story. "I told them that in a normal country a witness is not brought for questioning at 6 am," he testified.

At the end of the hearing, Olmert's attorney Navot Tel-Tzur said, "We believe that after today there are several undisputable points. Shula Zaken's journals were not secret; the prosecution's claim has been refuted and turned out to be baseless.

"The extent of the enormous load on Olmert in the years 2002-2006 has been exposed in a way which didn't allow him to handle everything."

Attorney Eli Zohar added that Talansky junior's testimony revealed that he knew nothing "but that his father didn't give Olmert money. He also criticized the police which made his father change stories, present 15 versions."

Zohar also noted that in his opinion the testimony had ended the Talansky affair.
