Tzachi Hanegbi is among the leading members of the Likud party, but in recent years he has been the subject of corruption allegations.
Hanegbi is the son of Geula Cohen, who served in the Knesset from 1973-1988 and was closely associated with the settler movement.
Hanegbi served as Minister of Internal Security in the government of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, but he was forced to step down from his post due to an investigation into allegations of inappropriate political appointments.
He was first elected to the Knesset in 1988 and has served on several Knesset committees, including Constitution, Law and Justice; Economics; and Foreign Affairs and Defense.
Hanegbi has also held several cabinet posts, including minister of health, justice, environment and transporation.
Born in Jerusalem in 1957, Hanegbi earned a B.A. in International Relations and a law degree from Hebrew University.
He is married with three children.
