El Al

Published: 01.12.05, 16:32 / Israel Homepage

El Al, Israel’s national airline, was transfered to private ownership in 2003.

The airline competes with international carriers for international lines and mainly with Arkia and C.A.L Cargo Air Lines for domestic routes.

El Al has two subsidiaries: Sun D’or International Airlines, which operates charter flights between Israel and Europe; and Teshet,

which operates two kosher catering companies – Taman (based in Israel) and Borenstein (based in New York).

Teshet also holds interests in Maman – the cargo handlers at Ben-Gurion International Airport; manages the Laromme Hotel Chain; and is the Israel representative of the Howard Johnson Hotel Group, Alamo Rent-A-Car, Air Nevada, British Midland, and international technical aviation companies such as Pratt and Whitney, and United Technologies.
