Mofaz says truce 'fragile'
Army prepares to renew security coordination with Palestinians amid terror fears; two Fatah members captured en route to attack
TEL AVIV - Terror organizations have still not had the last word, forcing the army to prepare for the possibility of resuming large-scale operations in West Bank cities, Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz told Central Command officers Tuesday.
“As we see it, the terror organizations have still not had the last word, and you must be prepared for the possibility of returning to the former status quo,” Mofaz said a short while after the end of the Sharm el-Sheikh summit.
The current situation is “still fragile”, he said, and added the IDF must ensure that the Palestinians’ principle obligation is to fight terror.
The statements came after two Fatah members had been captured earlier today north of the West Bank town of Jenin. The two men had planned to carry out a terror attack in the area, the army said.
Small terror cells are still planning attacks in a bid to undermine the relative calm, security officials said, and added that the Hizbullah is offered greater financial rewards to terrorists willing to perpetrate attacks in Israel.
This evening, Palestinian gunmen opened fire and lobbed a Molotov cocktail at an IDF force south of the West Bank town of Nablus.
No injuries or damage were reported in the incident.
Meanwhile, the IDF has removed checkpoints set up around Nablus earlier today in the wake of a terror alert.
