JERUSALEM - The disengagement timeframe is to be shortened to less than the scheduled eight weeks, Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz told the defense establishment Thursday.

Mofaz has ordered the move in a bid to minimize clashes with settlers, and asked those involved in formulating the plan to present a revised timeframe.

Mofaz said the time scheduled for the pullout implementation must be reduced as much as possible, as any delay would intensify rising tensions between security forces and anti-disengagement protestors.

Heads of the police, Shin Bet General Security Services and the Judicial system attended the meeting.

Mofaz asked the evacuation process be carried out consecutively throughout the week with the exception of Saturdays.

Police said they expect the bulk of protests to take part in the capital and have began training some 300 police officers to handle anticipated clashes.

Police said they expect protestors to disrupt government offices and to block roads on the day of disengagment.
