IDF raids Palestinian village after local residents cause severe damage to West Bank security fence; Palestinians say children were taken out of their homes and photographed in the middle of the night

TEL AVIV - IDF soldiers removed women and children from their homes in the middle of the night and photographed them during a raid on the Palestinian village of Budrus, local residents say.

The troops raided the village early Sunday following a series of demonstrations against the West Bank security fence that resulted in millions of dollars in damages, IDF sources said.

IDF forces stormed the village, located north of the town of Modi’in, in search of teens suspected of causing severe damage to the security fence, which runs near the village.

Local resident Ayad Murar told Ynet IDF troops said they wanted to detain those behind the destruction.

“They took the children outside and began photographing them,” he said. “Another group stood to the side, in the corner, as if they were terrorists.”

"One can only imagine how the children and women felt when they were taken out of their homes and photographed," Murar said. "The soldiers operated until 4 in the morning and then left."

The IDF eventually ordered soldiers to stop photographing young children, after left-wing activists complained to senior army officers, Murar told Ynet.

Village residents, IDF clashed in the past

IDF sources said some 10 youngsters were arrested in suspicion of damaging the security fence.

Confrontations between Budrus residents and the IDF commenced when the construction of the West Bank security fence began.

In September 2004, some 30 village residents were injured from IDF rubber-coated bullets during demonstrations against the security fence.

Last week, Budrus residents accused IDF soldiers of engaging in provocative conduct during a local wedding. As a result, village residents and Israeli activists damaged parts of the security fence, prompting the army raid.
