TEL AVIV - Two IDF soldiers are being investigated by Military Police on suspicion of selling a rifle to a Palestinian man, who is believed to have handed the weapon over to Palestinian terrorists.
The affair was cleared for publication by the Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court Sunday morning.
The 23-year-old Palestinian, who resided in Tel Aviv illegally, is facing interrogation over gun sale charges.
Rifle has not been recovered
The investigation into the matter was launched after an M-16 rifle was stolen from an IDF base in the south of the country in January. The inquiry revealed that the weapon was handed over to Khakimat Bani Uda, who resided in central Tel Aviv.
After an intelligence tip was received, Tel Aviv district police initiated a search for Bani Uda and eventually managed to trace him and set up a “business meeting.” During the meeting, the suspect purchased a gun, which is believed to have been earmarked for Palestinian terror groups.
Meanwhile, the weapon stolen from the IDF base has not been recovered yet.
In his police interrogation, Bani Uda confessed to involvement in the affair. The police are expected to submit an indictment against him in the coming days.
