Police foil highway protest
Traffic police officers discover tires, flammable materials near Ayalon freeway
TEL AVIV - Traffic police officers were able to foil yet another anti-pullout road-blocking protest after discovering tires and flammable materials near the Ayalon freeway in Tel Aviv.
The police suspect the materials were intended to be used by right-wing activists who have been making a habit of blocking major thoroughfares throughout the country in protest of the disengagement plan.
Following the latest protests, police officers have been patrolling the Ayalon freeway in a bid to foil further traffic disruptions. Tuesday mornings, officers spotted suspicious objects hidden in bushes near the Rokach interchange in northern Tel Aviv.
The police approached the bushes and discovered about 30 tires and large quantities of flammable materials.
Investigators were promptly dispatched to the scene and tested the materials for fingerprints.
Last week, police discovered 70 tires hidden in southern Tel Aviv after an alert citizen alerted them.
