Knesset speaker hopes for a miracle
‘We have to make sure Gaza is not only the beginning,’ Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin told Ynet
Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin said Tuesday he is hoping for a miracle that will derail the Gaza disengagement plan.
“There is a sense of completion and understanding that a decree is decree, although everyone is hoping for a miracle," Rivlin told Ynet.
Rivlin was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of a new residential complex in Tel Rumeida, a Jewish neighborhood in Hebron.
“As long as we breathe – we will hope,” Rivlin said. “We should look ahead, so that Gaza will not be just the beginning.”
Violence expected
Rivlin also talked about the level of violence expected during the pullout.
“Settlers will be asked to show determination in order to prevent other such decisions regarding other parts of the land. This raises the bar to a top level.”
However, he tried to make sure settlers understand that violence is no solution.
“People who have faith love life.
“Determination, dedication and faith brought once again Jewish settlers to Israel. Without fulfilling the dream, we cannot explain to others exactly how stubborn we really are about sitting here.”
“Sticking to the cause is still the Zionist order of the hour, and Zionism has not been fulfilled yet,” he added.
Ceremony was a stage for other right-wing leaders
Thousands attended the inauguration ceremony. Among them, Rabbi Moshe Levinger, who used the podium to attack the government and the prime minister.
“The government needs to go home, Sharon is sassy and he wants to hurt Israel,” he said to cheers from the audience.
Veteran right-wing activist Baruch Marzel also spoke at the ceremony. “Many governments have fallen while trying to kick us out, but we get stronger and bigger,” he said.
