Burglars break into Labor headquarters
Security cameras damaged, burglars gain entry into computer room, where data on party members is kept
TEL AVIV - Burglars broke into the Labor party headquarters in Tel Aviv damaging security cameras in the building and gaining entry into computer room, where data on party members is kept.
Party officials have apparently known about the break-in for the past two days, but refrained from lodging a complaint in light of the sensitive nature of the offense.
The break-in was only reported Friday morning, prompting police forces and Shin Bet agents to initiate an investigation into the matter.
At this time it is unclear how the burglars were able to gain entry into the facility, as a security company s supposed to maintain a regular presence at the site.
Mudslinging campaign
Tensions and controversy within Labor party ranks have been growing as elections for the party leadership approach.
Recently, the party’s legal advisor lodged a complaint with the police over what he said were forged membership forms submitted by Knesset Member and Histadrut labor union federation Chairman Amir Peretz, who vehemently denied the charges.
The affair has led to a mudslinging campaign pitting Peretz against former Prime Minister Ehud Barak. Notably, both figures are expected to vie for the Labor party’s leadership in the upcoming primaries.
