MOUNT DOV - The IDF accidentally fired a shell into Lebanese territory Monday that landed in an open area near the border, causing no injuries. The incident occurred while soldiers were working to neutralize explosive devices discovered in the area about two weeks ago. During the process, the IDF deployed artillery forces in the area as a precaution, IDF Northern Command sources told Ynet. “An apparent human error by one of the cannon operators” caused the mishap, one source said. IDF declares high alert on northern border Meanwhile, the IDF was quick to launch an investigation into the matter and reported the incident to United Nations forces deployed in the border area. The army also boosted its alert level in the north for fear of possible retaliatory fire from the Hizbullah. IDF officials said the Lebanese media reported the incident, with some media outlets reporting casualties. However, the officers stressed no injuries were caused by the misfired shell.
