‘Lord, annul Israel's government’
Right-wing activists were set to hand out anti-disengagement pamphlets in synagogues all across country Saturday
Anti-disengagement activists decided to hand out pamphlets reading “Our lord in heaven, annul Israel’s government… send us the Messiah, only he will begin and complete the salvation,” in synagogues all across the country Saturday, Ynet has learned.
The text is a play on the prayer for the country’s welfare, which is read in synagogues on Sabbaths and national holidays.
The pamphlet’s title reads “Disengage,” and the Israeli flag is pictured in the background along with the words “Their flag is not our flag.”
According to the activists the pamphlet calls on people to “disengage” from the government, not from the country.
“Israel will continue to exist,” one activist said. “But only disengagement from the regime would save the land of Israel.”
Yesha Rabbis Council Spokesman Daniel Shilo told Ynet in response “On the eve of Independence Day booklets in which various rabbis explain that prayers for the country’s welfare should be said were passed out in synagogues.”
Regarding to the pamphlet, Shilo said, “Why don’t they identify themselves? I assume some of them belong to the Chabad sect.”
He added “in religious-Zionist society there is resentment over the prime minister’s plan, but it is aimed at the government, not at the country.”
“The country is a gift from heaven, and the government is what we have chosen,” Shilo said. “We will continue to say the prayer for the country’s welfare on this Sabbath.”
