Pelephone CEO: workers’ hands clean

Ynet exclusive: Yakov Gelbard promises staff company will cooperate with investigation, says any worker who broke law violated instructions

Ynet has learned that Pelephone CEO Yakov Gelbard has promised company employees the company would cooperate fully with the “Trojan Horse” investigation, apparently involving senior company officials.

In a letter to company employees obtained by Ynet, Gelbard wrote, “Last Thursday the police came to our offices to conduct an investigation. As far as we can tell, the story revolves around several private investigators, who are accused of illegally obtaining information.

“The suspects have been arrested, but the police have decided to widen it’s investigation and to also investigate some of our customers.

“As you know, Shai Raz, our director of information in the marketing department, is being investigated. We believe the investigation will prove Raz acted in accordance with the law. We will continue to cooperate with the police.

"We hope the police will use all means available to promptly and thoroughly conduct its investigation, and that the results will show beyond any doubt that the hands of Pelephone employees are clean.

"Pelephone does not need to resort to illegalities in order to succeed. The company’s success is based on our hard-working staff and administrative team.

"I know many questions will be asked by your families, friends and customers. You should remember and clarify that the company, it’s workers and administration are careful to work within the law, and if one of our suppliers has broken the law, he has done so in direct contravention of our instructions and our commitments."

Amdocs also sends letter

Chief Financial Officer of Amdocs Ltd Ron Moskovitz also sent a similar letter to his employees.

"The company is surprised by the reports yesterday regarding the industrial espionage affair, and connecting Amdocs to an investigation conducted by the police regarding private investigators who have violated the law," Moskovitz wrote Sunday to thousands of company employees worldwide.

"Amdocs made contact with one of the investigation companies mentioned in the media, in order to prevent classified information from reaching people and organizations outside of the company, that would cause damage to clients and the company itself," he wrote, adding that "Amdocs is a law-abiding company, which operates according to rules and the highest ethical standards."

Moskovitz also said Amdocs had explicitly requested from the private investigators to act in accordance with the law and at present has not been summoned by police for questioning.
