GUSH KATIF - Police investigators have issued arrest warrants for most of the perpetrators of the weekend attack on Palestinians by right-wing activists in the Gaza Strip. Some suspects are still camped out at the Maoz Hayam Hotel in Gush Katif, while others have left the premises. Police have not stormed the building in an attempt to avoid an unnecessary confrontation with the settlers. But one police spokesman said his force would reconsider if suspects refused to appear for questioning after being served with their warrants. "We are continuing our investigation," Shimon Ben Haroush said. "We will decide when to carry out these arrests." Palestinians questioned Several settlers have been summoned for questioning, but police say none have appeared. They have also interviewed several eyewitnesses, and several Palestinian victims have given testimony. According to police, a group of Palestinians went to the beach on Shabbat, but the visit quickly descended into rock throwing. Shortly afterwards, dozens more Palestinians and settlers showed up. One Palestinian was shot and lightly wounded. Police also considered the option of closing the hotel on Monday, but have decided against the move at present. They agreed to set up a roadblock to observe passers-by, but will not enter the premises at this time. "We believe we’ll make progress once we question the Palestinians tomorrow, one police spokesman said. Outsiders Police believe the perpetrators of the attack are not Gaza residents, but rather right-wing activists who have rented out the hotel to serve as a base for house anti-pullout demonstrators expected to fill Gaza on Pullout Day.
