By Sharon Roffe-Ofir |
GOLAN HEIGHTS - IDF soldiers in the Golan Heights were fired upon from Syrian territory Monday. No injuries or damage were reported.
The soldiers were fixing a fence along near the ancient city of Qunetra when small arms fire was directed at them from the Syrian side of the border. The incident ended after a few minutes.
IDF officers are investigating the incident.
Last time
The last incident to occur on the Syrian border happened last April, when a 21-year-old Syrian citizen, Hamis Ahmed, crossed into Israel and tried to infiltrate an IDF post on the Golan.
Ahmed was caught by an IDF officer, arrested, and convicted by the Nazareth District Court of attempting to kidnap a soldier.
In May, tensions returned to the north when Hizbullah fired several Katushya rockets at the north, killing one boy in the town of Shlomi.
Israel responded by attacking Hizbullah positions on the Lebanese side of Mount Dov with jets and helicopter gunships.
