IDF kills one Palestinian

Soldiers in Gaza return fire on terror cell, killing one; in West Bank, soldiers intercept teen bomb-smuggler at checkpoint and undertaking military operation in Nablus

An IDF force took aim at three Palestinian gunmen who opened fire on soldiers Wednesday evening near the Morag settlement in southern Gaza.

The Al-Quds Companies, the military wing of the Islamic Jihad, said 20-year-old Ahmed Shihab, from Khan Yunis, was killed in the clash.

The group also said that a second gunman was badly wounded, and the third got away.

There are no reported injuries among IDF troops.

West Bank interception

Earlier, the army arrested a 17-year-old Palestinian from the West Bank village of Kafin.

The teenager was carrying two improvised explosive devices and a knife, and was stopped at a checkpoint south west of Jenin.

The bombs were detonated by a controlled explosion, and the youth is being questioned by security forces.

IDF sources said that the teenager was stopped at a surprise checkpoint, set up by the army on the same road on which 28-year-old Yevgeny Raider was murdered in a terrorist attack.

Ongoing operations

Meanwhile, a Palestinian youth was wounded by IDF fire in the Balata refugee camp in Nablus, said Palestinian sources.

According to these sources, a large military force is operating in the area, and there are ongoing clashes between soldiers and residents.

IDF sources said that units did take fire in the Nablus but did not shoot back. No injuries among military personnel have been reported.

Palestinian sources also said that a number of army and Border Police jeeps have entered the West Bank city of Ramallah. According to the report, Israel warned the Palestinian Authority ahead of time to clear its security personnel from the city center.
