IDF troops sustain light injuries after explosive charge detonated near jeep in Southern Gaza Strip
GAZA – Four IDF soldiers sustained light injuries Friday afternoon after an explosive charge was detonated near the Jeep they were traveling in, in proximity to a security fence in the southern Gaza Strip.
The soldiers were taken to hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, the Fatah’s al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades claimed responsibility for the attack.
The Palestinian attackers placed the explosive device near the fence and remotely detonated it as the army vehicle approached the area. Notably, four similar bombs, weighing 20-40 kilograms (44-88 pounds,) were uncovered in Gaza during the past week.
Palestinian attacks on the rise
The latest attack’s modus operandi resembles tactics adopted by the Hizbullah in Lebanon before Israel withdrew from the country. Although the latest attack did not cause serious injuries, such strikes can cause much greater harm.
Several weeks ago, an IDF soldier sustained moderate wounds after a similar bomb was detonated in the central Gaza Strip.
Army officials say the number of attempted Palestinian attacks in Gaza continued to rise in the past week. In one of the incidents, troops fired and killed a terrorist who was part of a cell planning to infiltrate the Gaza settlement of Morag.
Meanwhile, shooting attacks on IDF targets in the Strip are also on the rise, the army said.
