Anti-pullout bribe scandal investigated

Attorney general orders police to open criminal investigation against the National Home right-wing movement, after it was revealed that bribes are on offer to soldiers who refuse orders to carry out Gaza pullout

The Attorney General, Meni Mazuz, has decided to open a criminal investigation against an organization that offered payments to soldiers who would refuse to obey orders, in an attempt to sabotage the disegnagement program.

The offer was brought to the attention of Mazuz by the chairman of the Meretz-Yahad political party, Yossi Beilin. The army has also brought the matter to Mazuz’s attention.

In a letter to Beilin, Mazuz said that he has “instructed the police to open a criminal investigation against the body which, according to reports, is paying USD 1,000 to every soldier who is refusing order, in an attempt to sabotage the disengagement program. I would like to highlight the severity of this issue, but at this point, the reports have yet to be confirmed.”

When Beilin found out about the order refusal ‘funding plan,’ he told Mazuz that a serious criminal offence had been committed.

“I was shocked and disturbed to read reports, according to which an IDF officer received a financial reward of USD 1,000. The reward is provided by the National Home, which pledged to continue giving similar rewards to each soldier who refuses," wrote Beilin.

"The scandal of reward money being offered to soldiers who refuse orders must end. The justice system must put an end to this madness which threatens the rule of law in this country," he added.

“Due to the severe circumstances of this issue, I am asking you to act without delay, and to use your authority to bring those responsible to trial and charge them with acts of mutiny,” wrote Beilin.
