Moving from Katif to Gadish

Bnei Menashe tribe, originally from the Indian-Burmese border, will move temporary from Gush Katif to Moshav Gadish near Afula following pullout

Fifteen families belonging to the Bnei Menashe tribe residing in the Gush Katif settlement bloc will move to the Gilboa region, until a permanent residential solution following Israel's upcoming pullout.

The community will move temporarily to Moshav Gadish near Afula until permanent homes at Moshav Magen Shaul in the Gilboa are built.

The group first toured the lower Galilee and Gilboa area some two months ago in a bid to find a new area in which to relocate the community.

Community members say they are disappointed by Disengagement Administration Head Yonatan Bassi for proposing they move to Sderot.

However, members approached the Administration and Housing Ministry once more, and were assisted by Housing Minister Yitzhak Herzog until a satisfactory solution was found.

An additional community of 30 families living in Neve Dekalim will move with fellow residents to Nitzan or near Binyamin.

The Bnei Menashe tribe believes it is one of the ten lost tribes of Israel, and originates from an area along the Indian-Burmese border.
